Build Check

The psu is massively overspecced. Even with my 1070 heavily overclocked the whole pc only pulls just under 300w at the wall while benching. Normal gaming use is 220-250w depending on the game. The 1060 is even more frugal when it comes to power requirements. A good 450-550w psu would be more than you would ever need for that pc even with overclocking.

You want quad channel ram so 4x sticks not a pair.

Have you seen this bundle that comes out slightly cheaper but has slightly faster ram?

Thanks pasty ive gone for the bundle instead of separate RAM, CPU, Mobo and cooling and ive downgraded the PSU also.

You are going to need more gpu horsepower if you want to game at 4K. A GTX 1060 isn't going to cut it.

What is your budget ? And do you just need the tower and monitor ?

Budget is 1800. I could sell my 1060 and possibly put a bit extra to get a 1070. And yeah just need tower and monitor for now anyway

A GTX 1070 and 1440p Monitor would be a good match. Also do you need the extra cpu cores ? Or would a 4 core i7 6700K be enough for Software development ? And do you already have HDD/SSD storage ?

To be honest i probably dont need the 6 cores to be fair for the sort of stuff i do. Its not like im running tons of vms or anything. Already got a couple of SSDS and will be getting 1 more to go with this.

If you don't mind going with an i7 6700K and a different case, you can get something like this for a touch over £1800. You could even save a bit more by going with a cheaper motherboard, ram and cooler.

A single GTX 1070 will do 'OK' at 4K but you will need to lower settings in some games. You can also scale down to 1440p although I have no idea on how it will look, as it isn't something I have ever done.

Easiest way to knock a couple of hundred quid off would be to drop the X99 bundle for a 6700k bundle but they only go up to 16Gb of ram. Another place to save money is to drop the case for one of the excellent Phanteks cases. The Enthoo Pro M would be plenty big enough to fit everything in and has excellent cooling options.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

A good solid 6700k build saves over £250 while still keeping 32Gb of ram (do you really need that much though?):-

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Slightly cheaper but more suitable psu (the one you picked is a SFX unit so would have to be used with a adaptor to fit a normal size case). Brand new model that has been getting very good reviews and has a 7 year warranty too:-

Thanks guys for all the help really appreciate it. I've managed to scrape the coffers and can afford the following:

Sorry i ment its a reference blower type card ther quite noisy and there are better options at that price point.

I would spend less on the case, and buy the i7 5820K whilst it is £40 cheaper. Just add the motherboard and ram and overclock it yourself to save some more money.
The 360mm AIO seems a bit excessive as well, unless you are trying to overclock the cpu to it's limit. Something like a Corsair H105 or H110i would be fine.
The Crucial MX300 is also better value at the moment.

I would then use the money saved to swap out the GTX 1070 for a GTX 1080.
