Hi guys first off im new here but found some theaads helpful when choosing my parts so joined up for a bit of advice / tuting from those who know what they are doing

im rebuilding my old pc, for gaming, nothing intensive just for a bit of fun
I dont plan to dual screen or use paired GPUS for a while so that said this is what i have come up with (DVD aand hard drive are pretty good in it so wont change them)

MoBo:gigabyte GA970A-D3
CPU:AMD phenom II 965
Ram:crucial 8GB (4gb paired)
GPU: radeon 7850

also how would i work out what sort of power supply id need? or find out if the old one will cut it

Do you think this will work out, or am i missing better value options in there this really is about most fun for theast money.

Thanks in advance
JD

its an octigen model no# 9164kmotg atx 300W
output says 'total output of +3.3v and +5 volt shall not exceed 152.8W
+3, +5V and +12V total output power max is 296.8W'
to be frank im not sure what this means, and not sure what i need, this is my first forray into doing anything but upgradin the ram cards on an old pc
and not sure on age sorry

Don't even think of using that PSU with your new components ....

Are you buying the mobo and phenom or do you have them?

Do you have an overall budget.

I wouldn't build a phenom PC now, better with an I5 or higher clocked recent AMD chip

thanks, ill add it t the list bringing my costs up to 355 or less if im lucky.
so do you think this system would work out ok, the components generally have good reviews.
is there anything you would swap without increasing the costs much ( or lessening the cost is even better!)
basicly my budget is hopefully 350 or less. i havent bought a thing yet.

would it be worth getting one f the budles from here such as the radon 550a bundle, instead of buying seperatly would it work better? im just a bit confused tried to read up but probably was on outdated sources or something

Phenom 965BE is an ok processor but was superseded by bulldozer and piledriver. It's still an good enough for gaming though with basic mainboard an I5 can be had for not that much extra.

A cheap build could be

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI HD 7850 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards with Tomb Raider & Bioshock PC Games £155.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3330 3.00GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £149.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) £41.99
1 x XFX Pro 450W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £39.95
1 x MSI H61M-P31-G3 Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £35.99
Total : £435.90 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Motherboard is cheap and no frills such as USB3 or PCI-E 3 but will be just fine with a single GPU and an I5
CPU, I'd rather take a more expensive version but this works and the board won't oc anyway.

For a Z77 board and K series chip for OC you'd be looking around £80 more

GPU cheapest 7850 with 2GB for decent gaming performance

PSU is adequate for the system

You can't add multiple GPU's to this but in any case I'd steer away from Crossfire and SLi with low to mid cards. Better to trade the card for a decent single slot version than to run multiple mid range cards.

quite a bit over budget and pushing it to 2 and a bit months worth of disposable income for me. but thanks, will any of the bundles hack it for gaming? eg:
possibly upgrading to the A8 or A10 cpu options?
just to say again im not looking for some super rig but just enough to enjoy games nicely
thanks again yu guys must get fed up of the newbish questions so thanks for taking the time . (btw i know i keep mentioning AMD stuff im not dead set n it just seems to be a bit cheaper )
just realised i could get this instead http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-084-OP&groupid=43&catid=2512 looks a lot better
Also, i keep looking up the bulldozers and most reviews say they are just a bit underwhelming compared to the previous phenoms. but the cant believe all yu read on tinterwebs

just found this
AM3 FX6-6100 Bulldozer Six Core Processor,

8192MB(8GB) DDR3 RAM, 500GB SATA III HDD, 2GB ATI Radeon 7750 Graphics card,

6x USB(2.0), Dual format Dual layer 22x DVDRW with Nero Software,

Soundblaster Comp 5.1 Sound, Gigabit Network adapter,

3391 Gaming Case Blue Light with 500W PSU,

Ps2 Optical Mouse, Ps2 keyboard, Mains powered Speakers

looks good to me as a full set upp and in budget which is awesome.

a few upgradable options aswell but need to pay extra for an OS and i dont know what one to get lol windows 7 or 8 im still on XP on my laptop!

It's rubbish. The 6100 is Bulldozer. If you are looking at going down the AMD route you should be looking at the 6300 which is Piledriver. Seems like the build has a cheap and nasty case with a crappy generic psu. No motherboard model listed either.

Listen to what the guys on here are telling you.

the lack of mob info did concern me,
as did the tackyness of the case.

thanks Dacads, that last bundle looks allright do you guys think it would work out ok? i mean wont be a heap of brown and smelly
