Hi,

I'm looking to replace my ageing laptop with something newer and better spec'd.

I currently do audio recording and video editing but also want decent gaming graphics and performance.

I've done some research and think I have come up with a decent build, below, but just wanted someone with more experience to cast their eye over it and let me know of any issues or incompatibilities (although I think I have covered everything).

I have gone for the i7 6700k as in the future I'd like to have a go at overclocking and I think the MSI Motherboard and Corsair PSU are good fit for this. Also, I've gone for a bigger power supply as I might want to run SLI in the future.

Also, any recommendations on extra cabling for better airflow (manufacturer/where to get them) would be great too.

Thanks and really appreciate anyone looking over and commenting.

Hi StarShock,

Thanks checking over. I went with the larger PSU to cover me in the future if I went down the SLI route. I suppose for the meantime though, I could use that one. Also I wasn't sure if 32gb of memory would be better for the video and music editing.

How about X99 ? The extra cpu cores should come in handy for video editing.

If you want a cheaper cooler then the BeQuiet Dark Rock 3/Pro 3 would look nicer than the Noctua imo.
They are a bit more fiddly to install though and you also have to be careful with clearance around the top pci-e slot, as some coolers can block it.

The Phanteks Enthoo Pro will give you a cleaner looking build as it has a psu cover and hides all the internal drive bays.

If you want replacement braided cables for the EVGA G2 psu then Bitfenix do them. They are pretty pricey though.

Hi Lee32UK, those alternative cables are pricey!

Does the change in CPU affect gaming at all or us it one if those things that isn't notice but improves the video/music editing.

Yes they are pretty expensive. In a case like the Phanteks you could go with extensions (Bitfenix, Silverstone), although the slight downside is you have more overall cable length, so more to hide behind the motherboard tray.

There shouldn't be a whole lot of difference between the cpu's for gaming. As you are doing editing as well then the 6 core 5820K should perform better, especially in multi threaded situations.

Thanks, I'm still checking what I'd need and as I'm trying to get the PC that will last me for a while and act as a good basis for future upgrades (new graphic cards/SLI), I appreciate the advice.

Just need to finalise everything and get the courage to pull the switch on the order!!
