Build Critique

After looking at trying to upgrade specific components I realized that there's just a long chain of "well, if I get x, then I'd need y", "if I've got A, then I might as well get B". So I've put together a complete build, I just need to justify it to myself and maybe improve some of the components.

Things I don't need:

Optical Drive
Operating System (I got windows 7 at a discount price through college)
Data/Storage Drive (I have a Barracuda 7200.12 1TB, plus I'd rather wait for prices to come down)
Case/Chassis (I have an Antec 902, which is fine I think)
PSU (Got the Corsair HX750W)

The first 3 will not be sourced from OcUK, as I have credit remaining at another retailer.

Asus VH242H - £131.98
Vertex 3 120gb - £161.70
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6850 - £114.14

I don't game too much on my PC as I'm more of a console gamer, the only games I play on PC are football manager, however it would be nice to maybe try some games out.

Some of the items included are based on this weeks current offers (+the VAT return from MSI) so ideally i'd have to place the order tonight, just looking for some advice on any components which need improving/removing, budget is <£1000, total currently stands at £904.75

the msi motherboard is out of stock, the invoice has to be no later then 21st to qualify for the cash back. so unless ocuk date the invoice on the 21st rather than when they get stock and post it to you then you'll miss the offer.

Okay, changed to the Antec Kuhler 620 as the reviews do indeed say it performs better. Can you recommend me some fans for a push/pull config? looking at the Akasa Apache.

Also changed to the Crucial SSD, having just read some reviews about the Vertex reliability and the issues people have been having. I imagine if the firmware of the Crucial was updated it may perform better anyway.

I checked this out, as long as the purchase date is before the 21st and the application is submitted before the 9th of December, I will be okay.

The latest 009 firmware for the crucial has improved the speeds.

For fans, the gentle typhoons are good.

I've decided I'll stick with the stock kuhler fan for now, then order two more if I find them to be noisy/ineffective.

Just wondering if someone can clarify the RAM situation for me as timings and channels aren't my speciality, from what I've read of the motherboard specs it doesn't support triple channel and only doesn't support the higher end dual channel, can I improve on those sticks of RAM without too much extra cost?

All the sandybridge ram guides say 1600 mhz with modest timings is all you need. So those above are ok.

Well, I'll be pushing the button soon unless there's anything else somebody wants to add/change :D
