Hey everyone, my friend is looking to get a new PC and I told him you guys did a great job on mine so I said I'd ask here on his behalf. He has £500-£550 to spend and would like this case, 1TB hard drive and an AMD processor. Go wild!
Cheers

[EDIT] He has a monitor and a keyboard/mouse.

You need to be more specific as to what parts are needed (OS, peripherals, monitor etc etc)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
1 x XFX Pro 550W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
1 x **B Grade** Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX) £46.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV38G160C9K) £35.99

Total : £563.93 (includes shipping : £12.50).

The mobo is a bargain (check with OCuk what's missing, probably just sata cables if anything). If he needs an OS he could try the windows 8 developers edition for 3 months as a try before you buy and then get the OS later in the year. It's just over budget but worth the cash I promise :)

A few things wrong with build, there not WRONG but worth changing..

I would personal go with intel and the i5 3570k.. Great chips and great overclockers too. A fraction better than the 8320. I just feel intel chipsets are better too.. The choice is yours.

That PSU isn't the best. Id go with an XFX 550W (or is it 500W) core.

I'd get a better cooler, The Artic cooling i30 (A30 for AMD) is amazing for such a cheap cooler, so is the matterhorn pure.

@OP, does your friend want to play heavy games at High res or is he more casual?

they were just parts i used myself and have had no problem with so i thought they would do the trick

Would that build work with this processor? I think it's a pretty good build and he'll be well within budget that way.

It would but that processor is truely awful, this is not me being a fanboy, its just pure fact.

The Piledrivers (8320) are the only worthwhile AMD cpu's, Bulldozer was a bit of a bust.

a lot better off with an i5 or even an i3..

Take a look at benchmarks for the A10-5800k. They are pretty good.

Wouldn't go from 2GB to 1GB. New consoles are out in a matter of months and when they are all games (including PC which are often console ports) will be gobbling VRAM.

Is this just board only?

Another possibility

And then switch the HDD and the RAM to those from the second list. Would save around £23 I think, so you're at ~£550 + shipping.

The amd piledriver does work a treat unfortunately although they will deny it this forum is biased towards intelthey do benchmark higher and in cases are better but tbh it is not a noticeable difference if you are gaming, you are talking 5-10 frames difference and there are cases where the amd piledriver is better than the i5 e.g. multithreaded processing it's up to him whether he wants the piledriver or the i5 i have both a piledriver and a 3770k i7 and with the same g-card there is no difference in frames and even if there was it would be miniscule
