Yeah, you could easily get a ti-core, DDR3 and MA3 socket mobo for that....

Cheaper, and get a 4890 ;)

Aye, that system above will do you very well. The only changes you may want to consider are:

-The case is very much personal choice, if you like the look of the Antec 300 your originally picked, then go for it. Its only £5 more and is also a very good case.

- If your bro plans on overclocking then you may want to get him an aftermarket cooler like this. If he doesn't then the stock AMD one should be fine.

- Ensure you have a copy of windows for him to use. My personal choice would be windows 7 which is coming out on the 22nd October.

Other than that, have fun with the build, your bro should have a very nice PC :)

If you can stretch a bit more... if not then just get a cheaper monitor.

all ready to order lads, just could u tell me a bit more about mobo? just as its a cheaper 1 to many ive seen, is it still fine? im really noob tbh lol, all help would be appreciated. only ive been bitten b4 with this, bought a mobo a while back from msi and they decided not to update the bios for later processors, so i was f*kt, thanks all.

The mobo in my spec is a micro-ATX board. That means its smaller than standard ATX boards and thus cheaper to make. The only downside is that it has less expansion ports and less robust power architecture. However, if your bro is happy with just one PCI-E 2.0 x16 graphics card and a free PCI slot, then it is perfect for his needs. It also uses DDR2 RAM which is much cheaper than the DDR3 stuff, albeit slightly slower (it will still be plenty fast enough for all modern games/ apps).

Asus are a pretty huge motherboard company (the biggest I believe) and they seem to support their boards well. The board I picked is 785 chipset, which is one of the newest out and should be supported for a long while yet (AM3 is very much an active platform).

Hi Winter ,

The only thing id change mate is the CPU / MOBO / RAM.

Your paying quite a bit there for an old bit of technology. 775 is now going to be phased out and i can NOT see the justification in paying hundreds for new parts with it.

Me personally i would get a I5 750 Quad CPU , A nice Gigabyte US3L 1156 Mobo and some nice G.Skill RipJaw memory

This may add a little to your total price but you will have a brand new pc with the latest components. It will kick ass too.

thanks m8, il go ahead and order that set up then. yeah that seems like a good setup to mate but im really pushing his budget as is! thanks all.

So you going with the AM3 platform.
That's still a wise choice. Its AMD's mainstream platform so your buying into something with good future options.

Enjoy the system m8.
