Hi there, Im looking at buying Guild Wars 2 (after waiting soooooo long) and I'm not sure if my laptop would run it.

Laptop specs are

i5 2430 @ 2.6ghz
6GB DDR3 1066mhz ram
1TB 5400RPM HDD

Using on board graphics..

Any chance it will run?

If not then I'd say I have £300 to build a tower, already got an OS and monitor.

A bit over, but it's an pretty good build - although the motherboard does seem a bit OTT.

I assume your laptop would struggle because of the on board graphics.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x MSI HD 6850 "Dual Fan Edition" 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £83.99
1 x OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
1 x Gigabyte H61MA-D2V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £41.99
1 x BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML4GX3M2A1600C9B) £25.99
Total : £339.04 (includes shipping : £11.75).

*Decent CPU
*Good RAM
*Motherboard is a H61 chipset and does loose out on a few features of a Z77 however, it was to fit it into the budget and there should be little to no real performance lost
*PSU is a 550W and the graphics card requires a 500W
*Case is deemed as a pretty good value case
*Graphics card is very capable of Guild Wars 2

I could sell my Laptop for £300 ish I think so I could make the budget £500-575 tops.

But would need to include wireless keyboard and mouse.

Awesome, thanks for the build, just gunna try sell laptop for a better build. Hopefully GW2 is worth it after all these years!

I can load up the areas in GW2 on SSD loads faster than by HDD and it makes a big difference to file checking and patching too. Typically I'm done with loading sections 30 seconds faster than the other halfs pc.

This

GW2 has so many different zoned areas that need loading, an SSD will make the overall game (and general PC use) much more fluid..

You don't need a large SSD, 128GB will suffice, that is plenty enough for Windows + GW + another large game. £85-£95 for a reliable fast SSD like a Samsung or Crucial.

While i realise an SSD + peripherals will push you around £130 over your budget, you can just think of it as a night out at a nice restaurant that you didnt enjoy ;)

I remember my last build having a 64GB M4 SSD and that was insane. So it might be worth it.

My build will need a DVD drive too.
