Hey everyone, I'm thinking about going for a first time build. Now I've got a list of all my components (I think) and I'm gonna need you lovely people to have a look at it. It's an i7 build O,o

The main purpose for it will be running high end games such as Crysis and music/movies.

As well as the following, I already have a 550W PSU, an ATI Radeon HD 3850 (512mb) and another gfx card (not in use) of unknown details, only that it is 256mb, 2.1 sound stuff and mouse/keyboard.

-Antec Nine-Hundred Gaming Case
-Gigabyte EX58-UD4P Intel X58 (Socket 1366) Motherboard (3-way 16-pin CrossfireX)
-Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366)
-Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103UJ) HDD
-LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Reader & HD-DVD ROM Serial ATA Drive
-G.Skill 6GB DDR3 NQ PC3-12800C9 1600MHz (3x2GB) Triple Channel RAM
-Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 PCS Extreme 512MB
-Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium 7.1 Sound Card (70SB088000000)

Total price is £1179.81, and I really don't want to have to go much over that.

If Windows 7 is released this year then that'll be my OS, if not then it'll have to be plain old Vista-64bit.

Is having these two cards in Xfire in this system enough juice to play Crysis on highest settings? If not, please suggest what changes I should make. Bearing in mind I use a 24" monitor.

As I mentioned, this build is for later this year, will anything here become unwanted or obselete in 6-12 months time?

I think that's everything, thanks for reading :)

Youre gonna need a better gfx card, either a 4870x2/4870 1gig or a 295/280, preferably the ones in bold, thats gonna push your budget up but if I were you I'd ditch the sound card and just use the onbaord sound, I doubt very much you'll notice much difference

Hmm I suspected I needed a much better gfx card. Thanks for pointing out that about the sound card, I don't think I have one now and it rarely veers off perfect :)

Cost is currently £1318.97.
Now I'm hoping that some of this hardware will go down in price within a year, is that likely?

There's no real point spec'ing up a machine for later in the year now, do it when you're ready. Prices drop and hardware changes.
