I find my netbook is flummoxed by multiple instances of the Amplitube vst with Reaper, and can only handle it using the eco settings anyhow. So I'm going to build a cheap desktop system.
I won't be gaming at all so I'm hoping on board graphics will be enough for now, and already have a monitor. Soundcard is already sorted too.
I will, however, be using lightroom and maybe doing some basic hd video editing as I recently bought a sony nex camera. Is this going to be graphics intensive?
I've been advised to grab a gigabyte am3 board, perhaps 2 spinpoint 500gb drives and 4gb of ram. The cpu would perhaps be a phenom 955 or thereabouts.
As I'm trying to keep costs down, I started to think about maybe getting a cheaper tri core or maybe dual core amd cpu, with the option to upgrade to a six core one in the future, if the board doesn't die before then!
However I'm also tempted by the i3 540 lg1156, it's pretty cheap. I'm assuming the upgrade potential would be more limited than an Am3 build?
i7 would be great but I can't afford that at the moment.
