Hey guys, another spec me thread I'm afraid.

Im looking to build this prior to BF3, so anytime this month.

Budget of £900; I have monitor, OS, KB, mouse etc. Just need the tower.
I dont want an SSD, as I am getting one for Xmas.

My thoughts so far:
>i5
>z68 mobo
>gtx570
>8gb ram
>1tb HDD
> >= 750w PSU

I probably wont do another build for at least 2 years, so am wondering whether it is worth me getting a mobo thats suitable for ivybridge and gen 3 graphics.

Cheers all.

Did you want the option of SLI? or is a single graphics card all you will ever consider?

could make that cheaper by downgrading psu and maybe a cheaper case also

edit
i just noticed i included an os sorry take £60 pound off

Hmmm... Im not sure. I think by the time I would have enough money to buy another 570, i would be looking for a new build.

Or do you think the price of 570's will fall much after say 12 months?

Thanks

I think a GTX570 is fast as it is, besides there will be newer faster stuff out next year or by the time you wanted to do some changes there maybe something next/next gen again.

So what will I be losing out on by having this mobo:
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £85.98

Over the Asrock one?

cool gold caps

So there wouldn't be any performance difference?

And if they release any new graphics cards in the future, should I be able to slot one in?

What about a bulldozer build? Do any of you guys hold any hope for it?

Right wow. So what feature am I looking for on a motherboard, that suggests it will be ready for Ivybridge and Gen 3 cards.

And so really, all I am ruling out with that mobo, is SLI?

And are gigabyte mobos decent?

What wattage PSU should I need?

850 if sli or xfire is an option you want in future

It is, it doesn't have any PCI-E switches like a 8X/8X Gen3 board, where 8 of the PCI-E lanes go straight to the top slot and the other 8 go through switches that either send them to the top slot )for 16X) or if a second card is detected then it sends them to the second slot (8X/8X).

This cheaper board just sends all 16XPCI-E lanes to the top slot and its the ivybridge CPU that has the PCI-E controller onboard so you get the full 16Xgen3.0 to the top slot.

Yes, if a single card setup is all you want this is the board.

And are gigabyte mobos decent?

Yes, 3 year warranty and a UK based RMA centre so you dont have to send to Holland/Germany/Czech republic like other manufacturers

What wattage PSU should I need?

The 650W PSU I listed is enough for any single card you could expect to use, it also comes with a game that has to be worth £30

Well thanks for the input guys. Really appreciate it.

What do you guys think to a BD build? Do you think it could rival a build like the ones you have recommended?

I have it on good authority that BD isnt as good a "gaming" CPU as a i5 2500K

no one will know for sure until it's released, so wait for that and you'll get your answer by the end of the week.

Yeh. I've been hearing that too.

Just dont want to get an i5 for gaming now. Then next year, all games will be multithreaded like crazy and BD will take over...
