Using Adobe CS5, and need to build a decent rig.
Best bang for buck

Needs to include:

i7-2600k
motherboard (would like firewire for pro tools hardware)
case/psu
16Gb RAM

I also need an Nvidia GTX with CUDA.

What do you think? How much am I looking at??

Thanks for those.

I don't really want to spend more than £800 really.
Not bothered what the case looks like as it's pretty much out of sight.
No need for a DVD writer either.

As regards RAM, someone told me I should have 1600+ but I'm not too sure about this. I might settle for 8Gb or 12Gb for the time being.
And perhaps a WD black HD for the projects disk, and use a couple of HDs from my current rig for OS and storage.

(How do you make those links quickly?)

So how about this?

a little bit over my budget, but might stretch if it's gonna be better.
i was thinking of using the f3s in a raid 0 - the guys on the adobe forums recommend this. and they also recommend going for 16gb ram (what do i know)
they have a benchmark results page at http://ppbm5.com/Benchmark5.html
to see other peoples scores on their systems.

I ordered last night, except I opted for 8Gb RAM instead of 16Gb, see how it goes. I can always add later if I feel the need.

I went for the F3s, as the F4s although more capacity are only 5400RPM. And I wanted at least 7200RPM.
I will also be using 2 x WD Caviar Blue 500Gb HDs from my existing rig. One as the OS/progs disk and the other as an output disk. The F3s will be used for Media/Projects and Pagefile/Media Cache.

How easy is it to OC this setup?
