So Scott delivered my gear and i've finished putting it together i just need a few checks done.
My dvd is plugged into sata 1 on mobo, hdd = sata2 is this right?
Also i have a dual sata power lead running from sata on POWER SUPPLY to hdd and dvd. Is this right?
My graphics card has 1 six pin plug running to pcie on power supply. Is this right?
I think that's all :D

Yes mate, 6 pin socket on the top right hand corner of the card and a longer slot on the top left which i have no cables for, i think its a crossover slot though?
MSI HD 7850 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards <<<my card.

That's connected :D the only thing i'm not sure about is the graphics card spare slot. Mind you i cant fire it up till tomorrow as that's when my k/board gets delivered and hopefully by then a windows disc will have materialised lol.

I've d/loaded win7 home premium x64 plus the boot loader from microsoft, they're sitting on my laptop just in case i can't get a disc by tomorrow, that's the official free for 30 days jobbie but i expect i'll be able to grab a product key from somewhere.
Was the windows 8.1 trial free for 30 days also?

I might have a look at that later, tbh i want to install win7 for now as i know the ins and outs of it, but i'm bound to be re-formatting once or twice over the next few months until i'm happy with everything, luckily i don't use or need anything that requires a permanent home. :D

Well i d/loaded Windows 8.1 iso and burned it to dvd which was easy enough, then i installed it, Windows or my new keyboard didn't recognise one or more of my admin password keystrokes when i first entered it, so after re-boot i couldn't get back in :D. This made me spend 3 hours deleting the original Win8 partitions on the HDD and my second install of Win8 closely followed.
The Win8 recovery tools and rescue options are ****e, so's Win8 imo it feels like it's been rushed to give touch screen users an OS for pc, not so good with mouse and k/board...Anyway now my HD sound isn't working through the telly so i have to sort that out, it's something to do with devices but i'll have a look tonight.
The graphics on screen are grainy also but that'll be fine tuning i reckon.
Now i have to decide whether to switch back to Win7 or go with Win8, which is still using mostly Win7 drivers :/ or unix which i havn't looked at in 10 years.....
All the hard ware works perfectly i'm sure and no complaints other than the DVD drive sounds like a 747 taking off when it's running lol.
I dare say i'll be in Windows software thread later :D

Sound is fixed, the drivers on the discs were wrong and after visiting realtek and d/loading a little tool it's all fine now, i've put the info in the SOUND thread.

Who'd have thunk it though eh? i must be honest, i have to keep looking at a list i have of what parts i bought lol
I'll go roaming.......The lists on the laptop...........
