My friend want's to build a new gaming rig that would last him a few years so what do you guys think of this? will it all work perfectly? can anything be lowered?

I imagine a Phenom x4 955 would be a good, cheaper choice for CPU.
Hold off on the graphics cards until the new ATI cards are released (think they're due within a month?)
Also you'll most likely want to consider an aftermarket cooler for the cpu. Stock ones are generally 'only just' good enough. Something cheap like the Coolermaster Hyper 212+. Also factor in that, unless you have some spare fans, you'll want to buy at least 1 120mm intake fan for the 300, as it only comes with 2 exhausts as standard

Other than that, it looks good

I was thinking an x6 may be a bit more future proof? and wont be overclocking it? anybody else got any ideas? but i will ask him

Theres only a few games out that even make use of quad cores right now. Most are happy on a high clocked dual core. I cant imagine quad cores being incabapble of running games any time soon.

Also, with regards to the x4 955, my friend has one and overclocking is a breeze with the unlocked multiplier, apparently. He just added to the multiplier to get a 3.6ghz speed, which is more than enough!

If not overclocking, I still think the phenom quads will do better, purely due to the higher clock speeds and quad core being more than enough for nearly all new games
