I've been out the game a while and am thinking about building a new pc.

The last system I built is over 6 years old now, and none of the parts are left as I have farmed them out to other projects. I am looking at complete build for the above budget, this is to include a new monitor and operating system.

I've currently got a couple of 22'' monitors, but I want to now go back to one single monitor, ideally an ultra wide one. I like the idea of 1440p but this may be ambitious for my budget.

I'm thinking either a gtx 1060 or an RX 480 might be a good start? Would this be viable with a decent monitor?

Any comments/ideas much appreciated!

Thanks all :)

Hold fire now. There are signs that cpus and gpus are both about to drop quite significantly. A big hardware seller just sold a batch of Msi Armor 1070 cards for £295. I think there's a possibility that could happen again come boxing day and into the new year.

OcUK are offering a decent 8pack package for £499 at 10am on 28 December (Double check that).

This psu has been dropped to £70 twice in the last month:

What does that leave? Monitor, case, hard drive. And £430 to spend.

Maybe take a punt on this monitor for £260:

£170 for a decent m.2 and a pretty decent case.

Something like this would be awesome, the fury gpu performs really well at higher resolutions. With a 4k montior you have the option to run your games at 1440p or 2160p

I couldn't quite squeeze in an ultrawide but I think this is good for your budget.

If I am being completely honest I think you should hold off buying this until zen and kaby lake launch. Also keep an eye out for the 1080ti as it may push down the prices of the 1070 and 1080 into budget. If you are patient enough vega may mix things up aswell.

Nonetheless something like this is a good option for now
