Hi guys,

This is my first build since I've been a kid (around 10 years now). I wanted a rigid and good looking non black case - that's why I went for the C70 - I also quite like the military theme.

I've replaced window in the case with a clear plexiglass one and did the 'stealth DVD drive' mod.

Remaining parts should arrive tomorrow - will post my progress and thoughts about the components.

P.S.

I know that the printer is ancient - but it's absolutely amazing and extremely economic.

The C70 looks really nice, but the fact that it's all metal has put me off a wee bit. Always thought it could be quite rattly if you have a lot of fans running in it.

Good point - will find out soon enough :)

Like most Corsair cases it has rubber washers in most fan mounting spaces + I will use AF120 where there are no washers, I've also put some little rubber orings between the PSU and the case, so hopefully this should get rid of any vibration.

All metal is a good thing, or at least that's how i see it. I'm sick of flimsy rubbish plastic, like the stuff NZXT roll out.

My C70 doesn't rattle at all, it's solid.

Good luck with it. Looking forward to the rest of the build log.

Never saw the attraction on the Phantom range either.

UPDATE
Build took me most of the day - everything except installing the CPU cooler was fairly straihtforward.
Boxes !

"TUF Armor" Backplate on Z87 Sabertooth - I had to remove it in order to install the Dark Rock Pro 2, but was able to put it back on afterwards.

I enjoyed this build - I really like the case, it's great to work with. On the downside - one of the included fans was faulty - made some weird ticking noise. The stock coolers are nice and quiet but AF120 Performance seems to push quite a bit more air - will replace remaining stock coolers with AF120.

I checked out the Sabertooth fan control software - and I'm really impressed, easy to use, great features and has no problem controlling 3pin fans. With two clicks I was able to set up the tiny fans inside of the thermal armor to switch on only when the temeperature is around 60 degrees.

I suggest you use the SP120 fans on the front and the hard drive cage, makes a big difference. I got AF120s to begin with but swapped for the SP120, the pressure helps a lot.

I was thinking about this - but wasn't 100% sure whether Sabertooth will support 3pin fans control - and without fan control SP120 would be rather loud. I think I'll follow your advice & get SP120 for the front, and I'll put AF120 on the bottom.

So what do you guys think ?

nice clean look well done, any chance you could put up a picture of stealth drive front plate and a link for it, very much like to try it on my case

If you want a photo no problem - just let me know what exactly do you want to see on it :)
You have a quick guide here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaNvqDgzv_s I followed that video, and used double sided tape for cable trunking from B&Q.

R-evans - another case that I really liked is Corsair 650D (if you want black).

Great build. I think the parts you chose work really well together and match the theme of the case.

Thanks :) I was a bit worried - parts always look a bit different on pictures online, but I'm quite happy with the rig.

1 question - would Corsair SP120 Performance or Noctua NF-P12 be better as the front intake fan (through dust filter and hard drive cage). It's behind the grill - so looks don't really matter.

Looks real good and clean, on their own I'm not a massive fan of the colours of the case and mobo but together they look great. Especially with that 770. You have one fine brand new build.

This is such a nice build. I love how raw it looks. Perfect and not a custom braided cable in sight (even better for this build). If I could find a watercoolant in Olive drab I wanted similar colours to replace my RED TJ07 machine. What was the paint you used on the 120mm fan cowling in the back there?

Really like this build - hats off for pulling it off

Thanks a lot :)
When I started planning the build I did consider braiding, but I really like the cables that come with the AX760 - all black, and their sleeving looks really nice.
The paint I used was Humbrol No. 155 - modellers spray paint - you can get it for around 6 quid (including delivery). It took me 3 coats for a decent finish - but the paint dries extremely quickly (less than 1 hour in the sun). Paint with a lighter shade of green would look even better.

R-evans - you know you neeed it ^^ it's fun, and Corsair cases are brilliant.
