If you're upgrading the mobo as well as the CPU you'd be much better off going for an AMD X2 Dual core. They're much, much quicker than the Pentium D's.

Benchmarks show an X2 2.4ghz outperforming a Pentium D 3.4ghz

are you going to overclock ?

if so , look at the opteron cpus .....and maybe the DFI motherboard (great for overclocking)

best thing is to say what sort of budget you have and the kind people on these here forums will suggest a few specifications for you.....

also are you into games, as this will reflect on the video card choice.

no not really into games any more. :( more DVD's and photoshop stuff like that.

not sure on budget, but there is no way l am going to pay around £600 for a cpu. More like £350 somthing like that, also l want the mobo to have PCI Express on it. Could l use my old AGP card on this????

ok, well if your are going to overclock id look at the opteron 170 if not, then id look at the X2 4400 .. both around the same kind of price

the new motherboard will have pci express and no you cant use your old AGP card in it..

really, youll be buying motherboard/CPU/Graphics and maybe Ram as a minimum..

Loadsa people on this site can help with the overclocking, I don't really know much about it but i'm saving for a new rig atm and i'll be going for an opty and clocking it!

You probably should change the ram, better to have a 2gb d/chan kit.

what you going to do with your old mbrd and cpu..

i would guess it would be better to keep mbrd/cpu/ram as a kit and replace it all with the new mbrd/cpu/ram
