Build now or wait for 'next gen'

So here's the thing, my current PC is approaching it's 5th year and is showing it's age now, therefore I'm looking at building a new gaming PC.

I'm looking to build a high end gaming PC to compete with the next generation of consoles and 'next gen' PC titles and would like it to last me another 5 years (am i being optimistic?)

Should i bite the bullet and build now or wait till next gen arrives and see what they have to offer, then build an appropriate system?
I also understand the AMD 8000 series is due out around that time aswell, again should i wait for these to be realeased?

If you think i should build now i have a budget of around £1000 which i would need to get a case, motherboard, CPU, cooler, ram, power supply, SSD and graphics card, i already have all peripherals and operating system.

Any advice is most welcome.
Thank's Chris.

P.S Never overclocked before but would like to give it a go.:)

Theres always somthing around the corner somone once told me on here, so if your always holding out for somthing you'll never buy lol, just buy now i am :) Making my order tommorow as it happens. It may interest you to know from what i've read the next gen consoles will be using an amd 7850 as there gpu, not exactly high end.....Well bottom high end i guess its not a bad card its what im using atm. i5 4670k + gtx 770 or 7970 will be cracking i think for a good whilst yet tbh

Buy now. PC tech moves so fast, so if you keep waiting for the next gen, you'll be waiting for ever.

There are plenty of people on these forums who could spec you a best bang for buck system if you need any advice.

Thank's for the replies guys, looks like i'll put something together now then.
I'm not too savvy with what's available right now so if anyone would like to spec me a build it would be very much appreciated.

Current system.

GPU: AMD 7770
CPU: Q6600 @3.20GHz
RAM: 2x2GB Corsair Dominator XMS2 DDR2 PC2-8500C5
HDD:Western Digital Black 1TB
Motherboard: Abit IP35 Pro XE Intel P35
PSU: Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU

I'm looking for something obviously a bit faster with the ability to overclock, and the opportunity to go duel card in the future.

Current display is a 24" @ 1920 x 1200 resolution.

You can reuse the hdd. I would also reuse the Psu and just up grade it as and when you do get a second card.
What cooler are you using?
And the most important question, what is your budget?

I would say upgrade now. All you will ever get from waiting is less time with a new pc as you crawl by with your current.

I was stupid enough to put off building a new pc with the previous three generations due to repeatedly putting something off due to what is going to be released the next year. Running socket 775 up until Haswell was not something that served me well.

My current system was pre-built, bought form overclockers back in 2008. (hence the overclock).
I believe the cooler is an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro

That is what I thought. :)

I seen the budget just after I had posted. :o :D

Have you looked at any cases or have one in mind?

I recently built a system for my son with parts recommended from the guys on here in a Fractal Design Define R4 case which i quite liked because of it's minimalist look.
I have also been looking at the Corsair 540 case, i like the idea of having some of the components 'hidden' again making it clean looking with good air flow.

Beat me to it, yea i've been thinking about that Corsair case.
Thank's for the build. Is the 7970 worth waiting for?
