Just got back from OcUK, picked up the following:

Have to head out quickly now but will be constructing the beast when I get back and keeping this thread updated :D

Case is awesome, just opened it up now - lovely design and Lian Li quality.
Theres 12GB RAM. This is gonna be a dedicated CFD workstation for my dad, his current machine takes 17 hours to complete a simulation my machine does in 5. His company wanted to get him a £7000 Mac like one of his colleagues has, I told him it was stupid for multiple reasons, he let me prove my point and the Mac took 9.5 hours whilst costing £5500 more than this.

Anyway, pics of the case assembly soon.

Cheers guys.

The 800D would have been perfect for a water build but its just to new to me. I wouldnt feel happy giving him my first water build for work purposes no matter how much care and time I put into it.

You could quite happily mount some cathodes in the front air slot - would glow out the sides and look pretty sweet :D
Custom window would work very well too.

Getting the motherboard assembly pics up now . . . you'll probly see them in 45 mins :(

custom window? where can you get them?
are you going with some Cathcodes?

No, I mean cut it yourself - customise it how you want it.
Im not doing any cathodes myself as this is a workstation, but there definitely is space up front to get the light emanating out the sides.

Still waiting on the upload, gonna get dinner now.

The Megahalems really is an awesome CPU cooler. Used it on 3 i7 builds so far, not a single one exceeding 65C @ 4GHz.

Starting overclocking now, Gigabyte BIOS' always strikes me as being odd. Getting used to it and doing a quick test at 3GHz now.

Nice setup mate.
I have the same board can you tell me the what volts your using for 4ghz please.

Ive only just started the overclocking mate, not got anywhere near 4GHz yet. That being said it would be completely irrelevant if I had - your system will be completely different especially as this has 6 DIMMs.
As it is a workstation im going for absolute stability here. Although the likelihood of it being stressed for 24hours solid is really low (my system was averaging 70% CPU usage) this is what Im using as a base line for a stable overclock here.

3508MHz stable atm. Was having some Vdroop issues until I found Gigabytes handy little compensator.
Not sure how much further I can get it, the RAM is really V hungry and its spiking the temps more than Id like - hot cores are maxing at 70C in Prime95.

Cheers guys. Its sitting happy at 3508MHz atm, not had much chance to play anymore yet though. Gonna try working it up a bit more but dont think Ill get much further than 3.6 with HT and speedstep with this RAM. Have been using 21x so far, will be interesting to see if the hardware preffers lower multi and higher clock.

Finished it off with an EVGA GTX280 SC, my dads had a play today and is very pleased.
