Build or buy?

I have got to the point where when I need a computer now, I will just buy a pre built one from somewhere rather than building it myself. What do you do? I used to build them myself, but I no longer care, I just want a pc that works. Is it just me? Am I aging? Opinions please!!

Whoosh, probably better in the General Hardware forum. A nice mod will move you soon.

If it stayed in here you'd get lots of pictures of cats.

OcUK do a lovely range though, I'm told. (Computers, not cats.)

This should probably be in general hardware. I built my own about 3 years ago now, still going strong, depends if you want free control over upgrades or don't mind a bundle.

Surely the pc you build should just work after say about 3 hours building? Therefore it is just a pc that works. But if you don't feel that way, then why doesn't it?? To save money, spending a few hours putting it together to make it work isn't a lot, unless you do it wrong.

I prefer to build, seem to get better overall life of the computer with staged upgrades.

Though initial setup can be a pain in the rear and the temptation to spend too much on brand new components.

i'd say build your own too.
saying that if you're not 100% bothered about hand picking
the components then buy one. you know it'll boot
1st time, no faulty components etc.

Depends :

General office tasks, with no desire to upgrade ever = D*** , low end PC with monitor, warranty, no hassle for under £300

Anything more = self build.

Well, you have total control of what is going into your computer if you build it yourself and it will generally cost less than if you bought a whole new comp, plus it's easier to upgrade and more fun to build one imo and when you've finished you get self-satisfaction of seeing the PC you just built running smoothly.
