Hello
I am looking for a new rig that would be able to handle all current and future games on ultra settings... so x2 graphics cards maybe required?

Also I do a lot of image and video rendering, Photoshop etc

Money/price is not a problem as ive been saving

so please can you guys spec up (in theory the best PC at this time) me a new rig

A monitor can be thrown into the mix also...

Thank you for your time
Cheers

Well if money is no object then consider a custom 8-Pack system.

Also I would factor in that the real Pascal king - the 1080Ti, is due around March 2017. So ask yourself if you're willing to splash for 2 x 1080 just now, or maybe take advantage of 2 x 980Ti for now as they are currently selling cheap (starting around £350-ish) till they clear them, sell them for £250-ish each in March (they are currently going for £300-325 second-hand), and then get yourself a couple 1080Tis (which may even be overkill, time will tell).

Speaking of overkill, you should probably decide on a monitor first (4K @ 60Hz, Superwide 3440x1440 @ 100Hz, 27" 2560x1440 @ 144Hz). Then base your GPU choice on that.

Also note that dual GPU (SLI/XFire) is either not supported or not well supported by many apps and games. Sometimes you'll be using just one, the second card a nice luxury to have with anything that supports it.

The next thing would be to decide on a CPU. Socket 2011-V3 Haswell-E/Broadwell-E is the obvious choice here. They start at 6 cores/12 threads. How much are you willing to spend for extra cores (8 core/16 threads or 10 core/20 threads). Once again, similar to dual GPU setups, some apps and most games (at present) will not make use of extra CPU cores. Maybe 8 core i7-6900K or i7-5960X would be a happy (and still expensive) medium.

Hmm

but still... any chance of some builds and specs with pricing put together?

Thank you

after thinking about things MAX price would be - £3500

Okay. Just to start getting an idea of what can be crammed into that budget:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £3,499.78
(includes shipping: £0.00)

That's with a 5820K 6-core and 2 x 1080 and a Predator X34A.

The Silverstone case fit the budget after everything else and looks good for coping with SLI heat with all that unobstructed front intake and those 4x140mm fans. But case is personal preference too.

Don't know what storage plans you have but the idea behind the above drives is:

500GB 850 EVO for OS/Programs/Games
256GB 950 Pro M.2 for the cache and other functions of your editing programs
2TB 7200RPM drive for exports etc
3TB 5400RPM drive with reputation for reliability, for back-up

The rest of the stuff is pretty self-explanatory. Good stuff (PSU, cooler), even if not the most expensive, to allow for the big boys (monitor, CPU, GPUs) in the budget.

I'd probably start with a single 1080. Not exactly going to struggle with anything even if you don't see 100 fps in every game. And then add a second one if you want when prices come down thanks to AMD or the arrival of the 1080Ti. Or just replace with one 1080Ti. Don't know, so many ways to go with a budget like this. Hope it helps with ideas anyway.

thank you

just a quick one: is the monitor - Acer
Predator X34A 34" 3440x1440 ... is that 4K?

Thank you

4K is 3840x2160. But they are limited to 60Hz for now, and aren't Superwide. That's the trade-off.

2 x 1080 can give you good performance at 4K/60Hz if you prefer, whenever SLI works well that is.

How serious is your photo and video editing? you might be better of with 4k from the youtube videos ive seen of people comparing monitors.

purely for gaming id recommend an acer x34a

If your rendering and spending £3500 on a computer with sli. the minimum you should get is a 6850k 40 lane cpu or a 8 core cpu imo. invest in a couple of 980ti's rather than 1080s to get more value for your money and this should make some room for the cpu upgrade

SLI doesn't need a 40 lane cpu. The 5820K or 6800K will do fine.

I would stick with the GTX 1080's if he is going for 4K resolution. Also GTX 1070 > 980 ti if he is dropping down to 1440p.
