So heres a brake down of what I bought:

  • Sapphire HD 5750 512MB GDDR5 DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
  • Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 Socket 775, 1156, 1366, AM2, AM3 Heatpipe CPU Cooler
  • Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Cache - OEM Caviar Blue
  • Samsung SH-S223 22X DVD±RW/RAM/DL Serial ATA Black Bare Drive - OEM
  • Antec 300 Three Hundred Case
  • Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory Kit CL9 1.5V
  • AMD Athlon II X4 630 Socket AM3 2.8GHz 2MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor
  • OCZ Stealth XStream 600W PSU - SLI Ready ATX2.2 12cm Fan
  • ASROCK M3A785GMH/128M 785G Sopcket AM3 VGA DVI HDMI Out 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard

So the thing wont post. I thought it might have been a component but then it struck me that I might have done the great mistake of buying components that are not compatible. Would this work together? Im not sure if i got the right type of motherboard. Can anyone tell me if it is a hardware fault or ive been a tool.

Thanks a lot,
Michael.

if you had the wrong motherboard, then something (most likely CPU or RAM) would not fit, and it would be obvious. You have the right board.

what happens when you turn on? does anything come on the screen at all? do the fans spin up etc?

have you tried booting with no graphics card and using the integrated instead?

have you checked all your connections? particularly the CPU power plug. some people forget about that one:

Your spec seems fine, can you describe your not boot issue more, eg do some fans spin then restart.

Things to check, 4 pin power connected to motherboard, most common issue of not posting. //edit (looks like thingemajib has image of that one above :p)

Any shorts anywhere, stand-offs in place?

Pictures can help people diagnose you problem quicker as well.

Also graphic card power plugged in / have you tried the on-board outputs.

Good luck keep a cool head and don't stress too much.

I hadn't connected the CPU power cable. This was my first build so I wont be making this mistake again! You were brilliant help. Thank you so much!!
