Hi all ive been very lucky to have been given a

asus striker extreme 1
4 gig of ram
x1950 pro

all i need to get is

cpu
psu
cpu fan+heatsink

ok i was looking at

q6700
corsair 650w the offer at the mo
artic silver 5
and the Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer.

what u think?.

i have actualy got the setup going now with crappy hardware

intel celeron d 2.8 crap
dell 300w psu crap
and a nvidia 8600 ok i suppose for free :).

the bloke i got m/b off said he got an 45nm cpu and it dident work well today i had heart attack looking at the cpu socket pins he has bent two i had a magnifine glass and pokers to get em back again but all seems well its going.

p.s i can only use 2 gig of ram out of me 4gig as when i try to install windows with 4 gig it allways fails at the same place i removed two sticks of ram all is ok.

depends on what you want to use the system for, and 8600 nvidia is an OK card, not going to max out settings in the latest games but its fine for low-medium settings. What you need to post is what you want to build and the budget you have and you will get replies

x1950pro can't use it yet psu is crap
asus striker extreme
4 gig of ram tho only 2 gigs works.

I am trying to play arma was hoping what I have boged together would be better then me main pc

abit nf7-s 2.0
mobile athlon clocked to 3200+
7600gt agp
2gig of ram

but me main pc is still the same as what I've just built I think its the cpu its a crappy intel celeron d 2.8ghz.

me budget it well free :).

na just want ok stuff as can't afford to upgrade for ages.

p.s when I get it I will oc the q6700.
 
yes they are thing is it posts fine but when I try to install windows it gives me error halfway through install.

will try what u said when I have the rest of me other kit tbh I not worried 4gig would be nice but I'm only ever going to use xp if it was vista then I may have tried it now.
 
its bugging me I love arma and my current rig

abit nf7-s 2.0,mobile amd athlon @ 3200+,7600gtagp,2gig of ram all settings off and 800x600 still runs crap tbh.
I was hoping what I've just thrown together would have been
better

asus striker extreme,intel celeron 2.8,8600gt,2gig of ram and a sata h/d.
other than 1024x768 still runs crap is it the cpu?
 
About the RAM:

After installing Windows with 2GB, you will have to run the patch to fix it. Then you can shut down, add the other 2GB (now you have 4GB) and reboot. it should work fine after that.

The above is of course, assuming your trying to use Windows Vista (or SP1 should have the fix automatically).
 
damn i dont know what cpu to get do i get a quad or dual im on a budget but dont want to upgrade for ages so need a good cpu now.

i play games so must be good for that im going to be using an x1950pro but will get a nvidia 260 one day.

so its these ive narrowed it to

q6700
e5200 cheap so realy good but if i overclock will it be any good as the l2 cach is much lower than the rest.
e7400

i will be overclocking so please keep that in mind.

p.s allso does any one have this fitted in a asus striker extreme 1
Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM3/LGA775)
i know it supports the lg775 socket but theres a lot of heatpipes around the cpu socket will it clear ok?.
