Hello OCUK,

Could I please ask someone to take a look over the following build and tell me if they see anything blatantly wrong?

Case:

CPU:

CPU Cooler:

Motherboard:

GPU:

SSD:

PSU:

RAM:

I'm trying to keep it around £800. The specs are high enough for me, it's more whether they technically work.

I went for Skylake and appropriate motherboard for the longevity of the machine.

Is there a similar NVIDIA card at the same price point? I assumed not, but if someone can point it, awesome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Case CPU cooler clearance is 155mm. The Brocken 2 is 165mm. It might fit anyway, I don't know - cases often under-spec their clearance a bit. But total width of that case is only 185mm, so I doubt it.

CPU is non-K version. Intentional? Asking because motherboard is overspecced for a non-K. If you get a cheaper H170 then a 390/970 is within budget.

Corsair CX PSUs are not ideal for gaming rigs. Try SuperFlower/EVGA/XFX/Seasonic. Is 750W because you'd like a second card in future?

The Nvidia equivalent of the 380 4GB is the 960 4GB and some are available at the same price-point. But if you plan on two cards in future, then I would advise to go with the 380, or 390.

I don't know what games you like playing but if you want to play the most demanding on high graphics, then aim for a 390 or 970. Spending less on the motherboard will achieve that. There is a vast difference between 380/960 and 390/970 and the latter are better value for money, imo. The spec does technically work though, other than the CPU cooler issue.

Hi Danny,

Good catch, I didn't dig further on that CPU cooler. It seems bulkier, so I've switched to something a little smaller.

I've steered away from overclocking so I went for the locked chip but after taking a look at the H170 series of motherboards and the RAM available for them, it seems pretty limited?

I think I'll go with the bundle provided by Lemin (thanks Lemin!) and take a look at how the budget stretches for a GPU. If I have to, I'll prioritise the GPU though and just suffer through the bog standard Crucial 2133Mhz dimms.

I'll post the revised specs soon and in the mean time, I appreciate everyone's help!
