Hello all!
I'm intending to build a new rig when conroe comes out and just thought i'd outline what i'm going for at the moment... As it stands i want to limit my spending to the £1000 mark or there abouts. I'm a heavy gamer but the system will also be used as a work station. I will also overclock it but not to any massiveextent. I'm not totally new to building a pc and am capable however i have a few niggles that i wouldn't mind a bit of help on... If you think i've made stupid choices i don't mind if you tell me.

Intel Extreme D975bx-304 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - OEM (MB-010-IN)

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
£139.95

Subtotal £872.55

Total £1,025.25

This is the spec ive considered so far. I have a few issues and would greatly appreciate any advice

i) Is the Lan-Li PC-7 large enough, well ventilated and future proof considering a desire to keep this basic setup for the foreseable future i.e 2-3 years.
ii) Enough power? (particularly considering i will upgrade to a dx10 card in the future)
iii) I've included the maximum price i want to spend on a graphics card considering the aforementioned dx10 revolution, however is there a better option in this price range.
iv) If im honest id say this system is beyond my intended price and would like to wittle it down to around £900...

I seem to of been a little cheeky in asking so much from my first post, hope nobody minds too much...

Thanks in advance for any insights and improvements you can offer :)

  • Highly recommend case here on this forums. For that price its the best & cooling is good ;)
  • Watts should be enough & PSU is ATX2.0 should be fine unless DX10 or something else brings & demands a new ATX design??
  • Price vs Perfromance that's the best card!
  • One way...

excellent!!! thanks for the replies, i'll probably go for a combination of suggestions, is it practical to go for a cheaper mobo such as the

Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-011-IN)
£74.95 £88.07

if i wont be going beyond stock volts for a while?

Maybe a 7600 card instead, thus reducing my costs by about £100?
Are these options worth considering...
