hey all, a friend recommended asking here for suggestions on a build for my next PC.
the last time i built my own system was about 5 years ago and i haven't stayed right up to date with bits n pieces.
i'd like one to use for some gaming and general net usage with a tiny bit of photo editing.
i'd like to spend around 1000, will be building it myself, have a tv i will be using as the monitor, have a mouse, will need an OS, need a keyboard, would like an ssd as my main drive, water cooling would be nice but not worried either way and would like a case with viewing panel so i can add some funky lighting :)
look forward to your expert offerings
thanks :)

I expect an R9 270X with an i7 isn't very balanced for £1k

I'd go with something like this

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £319.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £164.99
1 x MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £99.95
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £74.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler £74.99
1 x BitFenix Ronin Tower Case - Black £69.95
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £67.99
1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE120BW) £67.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLD38G2133HC11ADC01) £53.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £43.99

+ your own keyboard, bringing you around £100 over though :(

I think the op did a ninja edit as he did not originally put gaming (unless I am going mad) and went with a 4770k for more photoshop use.

the 290 goes over budget, you could go with a cheaper keyboard.

You know a H100I and Win8.1 is a bit of nightmare (perhaps thats a strong word, but its not simple)?

The software really isn't liking it.

I had to flash the H100i to a previous firmware to try and stop the LED from illuminating pink all the time and to also get control of the fans by installing a previous beta of Corsair Link.

Thread about the LED problem - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18595788&highlight=pink

And as for Win8.1 and the H100i, Google brings it all up.

Thanks Stulid - never miss a thing do you? You must have missed the recommendation for the 80i which suffers the same problems in an earlier post. And the recommendation for a 290 outputting to a TV - a massive waste of money.

I've edited my post again. OP - Choose your own cooler.

I only discovered this issue in the past 3-4 weeks when I refitted my H100i (last time I used it was months and months ago on Win7) as I need the better cooling potential it gives on full fan speed to test new hardware.

Was rather annoying at first but plenty of Google searching and reading all about it at Corsair forums and speaking to Greybeard got it fixed, but its not a Simple fit+use device anymore when using Win8.1.

Plus you need to make sure it never updates to the recent Firmware which puts you back at square one with a pink LED and no fan control.

This Antec will just "work" - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-009-AN&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2359

i did edit and add gaming, but literally 1 sec after i posted it and realised i forgot to put that in. so either you read it as i was editing ( very freaky coincidence) or yeah you might have misread :P

and thanks some great suggestions. i see a lot of very knowledgable people are on here.

does it make a difference that my tv is a 37inch 200hz sony 3d bravia tv that i'll be outputting too?
i output my laptop to it at 1920x1080, and run most games at that resolution.
