Alright lads,

Basically my girlfriends kid wants a ps4 for xmas as he doesn't have one right now, I'm trying to get him into gaming on PC due to the fact it has so much more going for it. I want to get him something for xmas so I'm think of a gaming PC. I'd need everything except a copy of Windows. I'm wondering could something be done for 500 pounds. Obviously I'm not expecting a serious build but something a kid could look at and go WOW.

If someone could spec something for me I'd highly appreciate it.

Thanks

Little bit over budget but managed to get a monitor, keyboard and mouse in. While keeping the i3 and rx460. Some changes I'd be tempted to make would be dropping the SSD and trying to stretch to an RX 470, which would give noticeably better game performance.

Tip for you - if it's for xmas, don't build it before you give it to him! Wrap up each individual component and build it with him on xmas day :). That way it looks like he's getting stacks of presents, you'll both have fun building it and he'll appreciate and understand computers that little bit more. Plus think of the brownie points with the girlfriend :).

If you ask the majority of kids what they would prefer for Christmas I don't a PC would be top of the list.

before you commit to trying to convert you might wanna ask him what his friends are playing on first. if they are on ps4 and he ends up with pc it could backfire.

As much as it pains me to say, I would hold out for the Playstation Neo/ look at the price of the PS4 around Christmas time.

If all his friends are on PS4 this could not be the best move ever. I'm all for promoting the master race! but as a kid he would probably make a lot of decisions on what friends are doing. Which I imagine is not PC.

I don't know, kids there's days are largely untrustworthy and prone to violence. I think you should find out what his friends are playing on and specifically get the opposite, thus separating him from the other children's bad influence :P

tbh its worth checking what his mates are on, but as he currently doesn't have any gaming system, I don't think it will be the end of the world if you do push him towards PC.

yea my lad admits he prefers playing games on the PC but he does most of his game playing on the PS4 as his mates are on the PS4 and not the PC..

( ive seen him playing a game on the PC while chatting to his mates through the PS4!! )

Something I forgot to mention: being at school, he may be able to get copies of Windows and Office very cheaply.

Aye peer pressure is everything at that age. Also lets be honest once they get beyond a certain age Dad's are generally not cool. :/

Don't worry PS4 is the last generation that sony will dominate, Get him a PC and he will be able to play with all of his friends as soon as the cross platform gaming becomes mainstream via windows 10 on xbox and pc..
