Hi Folks,

I'm after someone to spec me a system please. Been out of the loop for a fair few years!
Happy to build myself, I just don't have time to research all the benchmarks etc, so i'm going off your expertise!

Ideally, i've got my heart set on an I5 devils canyon coupled with a GTX970 (these have been personal recommendations - i'm happy to change however i would prefer to stay with intel/nvidia)

Just need someone to put some decent components around it. Also needs a case and a monitor: 22-23 inch is fine.

Gaming rig, but won't be playing all the latest stuff.

Thanks

Thanks for the input chaps,

Whats the likely difference betwween the cards? Minimal?

Also, I have heard SSD is the way to go - how about if I upped my budget a little....?
(Hope the Mrs doesn't read this)

If I could squeeze £1000, what would be the best performing (and reasonably future-proof) rig?

A OS would be needed as well, but I won't count that in the price as I can possibly get an educational discount. Is windows 8 the way to go for gaming? (considering stability etc?)

I presume you still want a monitor for this new £1K budget?

Included a DVD re-writer too.

Is there a reason hes being specing gpu's in the £200++ bracket for this requirement?

MSI R9 280 £149.99 would be ideal would it not?

The op has requested / has his heart set on a 4690 and 970 GTX build, also the budget allows this without to much of a compromise on other areas.

What games will you be playing, OP?

Not much point spending £250 on a GPU when you can get the same performance in old games from a £130 one. Same for the CPU too, really.

has his heart set on? hes asked for expertise not emotions.

the 4690K is spot on for his original budget i agree, but the gpu i dont know.

Hes stated he "wont" be playing the latest games and now has increased his budget to 1k for a "gaming" machine.

im confused, the op needs to be more clear about whats he going to do and play on this machine.

The op asked for a set of requirements for a build and a price and we managed that. Just because he stated he won't be playing the latest does not mean he won't, at least we covered all areas.

Why don't you do a build then with the items you think he should use.

I think you should just leave the forums.

You have a very foul attitude, disgusting.

Im sorry if your offended, but that first spec responce is ridiculous. I had to say something incase the op wasted his money in my opinion. Im just putting it out their. Then RJC speced a £900+ system with "probably" an overkill gpu and no monitor to play it on.

If you can defend these things then go right ahead and il take back what i said.

Woooahhh...

Sorry guys - mad busy week so i haven't been on here.

Don't worry - i haven't wasted my money yet.

This machine will be mainly a gaming machine but will obviously still need to ability to carry out every day tasks such as administration/backup etc.

Firstly - I don't want people falling out on my account! Yes - I agree, I should've been clearer on my expectations!

In respect to my "not playing the latest games" comment, i think I misinformed you and could've phrased it better.

What I should've stated is that I am not going to be knit-picking and expecting to be able to run the very latest games on the highest settings. Laugh if you will, but I am yet to play Skyrim (Yes, I know, ridiculous!!) but bear in mind I haven't really bothered with the gaming scene in a number of years. If you want to benchmark against a modern title, I would like to play Far cry 4. Not necessarily on the max settings, but I would like it to impress!

It was this benchmark which I used when "setting my heart on" a 970. If you feel an R9 will still float my boat, then so be it. I also figured an I5 would be a decent compromise as top end I7's seem expensive and I have had poor experiences with AMD in the past. If this opinion is incorrect, I am happy to take alternative suggestions.

But please - don't fall out on my account. It's great there are forums where people are truly passionate about their areas of interests and, in every forum, people will have their own opinions.

I'm really thankful for all the comments so far and i'm not going to throw my money at something that isn't going to be fit for purpose. If my expectations are unrealistic, please tell me - suggest a system which you feel reflects both good performance and value for money!

Thanks

Its within the budget you specified and its a strong card that will not ever struggle at 1080P resolution.
