Hey guys,

So i was looking on google and an as you probably know possible to build your own SSD drive with SATA to CompactFlash Enclosure Adapter...basicly a Flash card reader and you shove a load of Flash cards (of your capacity choice)..like so.

Or you can even buy a Pci one..

Now,I know something like this probably wouldnt be anywhere near as fast as a proper SSD drive that you can buy,But what i want to know is....would building your own with that adapter and a load of flash cards be faster than a standard 7200rpm hard drive?

just wondering :)

Isn't this just going to cost more than an SSD, but be much slower?
A 96GB SSD is about £170, but 32GB sd cards are £60 ish, and even with 3 of them you aren't going to get much more than 60MB/s a second yet are paying more, even before buying the enclosure. Even if you could RAID six of them in each, you still have crappy speeds, and have spent a stupid amount of money. The compact flash one could be made faster, assuming they are in RAID, and you buy 300x or 600x flash cards, but then you have spent (much) more on something that is inferior to a proper SSD. These might have been impressive 3 years ago, but i don't think they are of much use now.
