Ok Guys,

I need nothing except the ability to watch films, use word and surf the net.

I already have a big 22inch Samsung screen that I plug into my Mac but want a cheap system with lots of storage (possible more than one internal hard disk).

What is the best way of going about and getting the bits? How slow can I go processor wise?

I will be running my old (legitimate) copy of XP., not Vista.

So am thinking: 1 gig ram.
500gb HD
Processor: No idea, some cheap AMD
Mobo?
For Sound & Gfx: I will use onboard for now.
Case?

I am quite into www.silentpcreview.com and will likely get the Enermax Modu82+ PSU (450w) because it is, as far as I can tell, the quietest PSU around.

However, if this is such a basic machine, can I think about running it fanless?

Your help and pricing much appreciated guys. :)

So I suppose you dont really save much going down to 1 gig from 2...

One other thing I forgot to mention: I intend on running Linux. Should that change anything?

(I have been out the game for so long I am a noob)

Thing is guys, do I really even need stuff this quick?

I am not sure I do.

I suppose the problem, though, is that there is nothing cheaper, as you simply cannot buy older stuff...

Guys - change of plan.

I want to see if I can get this to be fanless, totally passive.... :)

This is all too expensive.

I want cheap and VERY RELIABLE. I could not care less about performance, and it must not cause any issues with Linux. Can anyone tell me where to look?

Thanks
