Building a budget HTPC

I don't know what the specs of your computer are but if you've got a fairly decent PC why not just stick some large HDDs in for your media and then stream with your PS3, that's what I do.

That's what I've been doing for a while now but I want a library type feel with thumbnails etc.

Okay guys, think I'm getting there - will look into it more tomorrow.

Can I switch my HTPC off or does it need to be on constantly? Stupid question, sorry.

Depends on whether or not you want access to it from other parts of the house. I have a server running that I can access throughout the house - but when I get my HTPC setup it'll be also serving as a file/media server so it will be left on.

Thanks Freefaller.

Have serious issues trying to access the external HD connected to my PC. I mapped the drive but can't find it on my HTPC :(

Edit: Nevermind, can see my files now :) Thanks so much Freefaller and everyone else who helped in this thread.
