Project: Mech KB (Wow what an original name!)
Hello,
I wasn't sure if this would fit in the project logs section as that seems to all be just PCs so I'm posting this here, if this is the wrong section then can a mod please move it? Thanks.
Anyway, not sure if anyone is interested but I'm building another mechanical keyboard and i thought i would document the process of anger as i go.
The one I'm building is a Winkeyless B.mini EX X2 (winkeyless is a brand the keyboard does have winkeys.) It's not going to be very flashy and have no LEDs on it but I'm going to make the switches hot-swappable via holite sockets.
The soldering station I'm using is a Hakko 888D which is very good and i recommend it if you want to try something stupid like this project I'm doing.
The PCB looks like this (I'm crap with a camera/have a crap camera):
A finished one will (hopefully) looks something like this (minus LEDs):
What's already done:
USB socket soldered
Microcontroller parts soldered
Now what needs to be done is the following:
-Solder on all 7 trillion (slight exaggeration) diodes.
-Fit the hot-swap "Holite" sockets
-Fit all the switches
-Assemble the case
-Fit the keycaps
So far i have also soldered on the top row of diodes and i soldered on the resistors before realising i don't need them as I'm not going to be using the in switch LEDs.
To give you a scale of the resistors and diodes here's a picture against my little finger:
Here's what they looks like when (badly) soldered onto the board:
Here's the micro-controller stuff all done:
The keyboard switches I'm going to be using are 67g Zealios (high quality custom tactile switches made by gateron) they look like this:
These switches are expected to be with me next week hopefully, in addtion this i am also adding silencers to the switches to reduce noise from bottoming out.
In addition to this i also have a custom cable which was made by Pexon, The keycaps are going to be GMK Sky Dolch with the blue accent pack.
This thread is a mess and really badly written but you get the idea - I'll try and update this thread when i can.
