Hi Guys,

I am working on building a flash web store. I have been doing some research and browsing a lot of companies that offer building tools. Some sell e-commerce flash builders while other are just website flash builders. The difference between a standard builder and e-commerce builder can be like £100 more. I just wonder do you really need e-commerce?

My web store will only be using paypal (paypal shopping basket) and all payments will take place on paypal's site, once payment is done by my customers they will be redirected back to my store.

So can't I just go for a standard flash builder?

Many thanks in advance

no my site is offline as I didn't renew my yearly hosting fees as I am looking for another hosting provider. At the same time I want to rebuild the store.

Why is flash so bad? I only want flash as I want to have some animations on my page names so when someone mouse overs a page name a little animation would show up. Then if you click on the name a drop down box opens up. That's all really, and a nice photo gallery for product photos. No flash intro or flash logo is needed.

There are many reasons why flash should not be used for this type of site. A quick google of "reasons not to use flash" gives a number of reasons.

You could probably do most (if not all) of that using the jQuery Javascript library - and it would be accessible to boot.

Doing a whole site in flash = stupid for so many reasons (hard to update, poor SEO, accessibility harder to make work, inaccessible to people without flash/mobile browsers etc. etc. etc.).

IMHO flash is good for one thing only, web games :D

I don't want to do the whole site in flash, only what i pointed out. But you say jquery is the way to go, is it easy? like drag and drop?

No it's not. And neither is Flash. If you're serious about opening up a store online that's secure for your customers to use. I'd contact a web development company to do all this for you because you clearly have no idea what you're doing.

I don't have an idea about these things, but I am a fast learner. But I do believe there is something out there that can do this with simple drag and drop. There are hundreds of easy drag and drop flash builders, so there must be a drag and drop way of adding simple animations to a html site, anyone know of any?

EDIT: If you don't believe that there are any simple drag and drop flash builders then take a look here www.wix.com

Do you really believe dvdbunny is capable of using Google?

If you only want certain parts of the site to have flash, then you are going to have to use a flash editor and make it yourself.

And that site sucks, like all flash sites because I can't open links in new tabs.

dvdbunny is so hilarious. whats best is that he is either selling computer parts (like this hasn't been done before) or something illegal, or finally porn, and seems to think he is on to a really great idea.

how on earth do you think you are a fast learner? i remember a thread recently where you thought you had to pay companies like pepsi to advertise for them, then in another thread i mentioned it as a joke and you then claimed in the original that it was me who said it first which is why you thought that.

i don't think you have a clue what is going on, everyone is telling you to do the complete opposite of what you are planning and you never listen, ignoring every single post minus one and only reply back to one tiny comment from it.

Flash based sites can look good, but they certainly don't play well with the SEO wizard, dvdbunny.

Google a common subject and then go through the results.

How many sites are Flash based there in the top results on the first page?.

My case, is as they say.........rested.

okay but I don't exactly want to do a full flash site and that site I posted wix.com I saw a demo video and they said they have made there flash builder very seo friendly and use simple drop down boxes which you fill with meta keywords, tags etc and they say it helps engines rank you. Is this good still?

Edit: is gamespot a flash site http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26222869

Oh my god you really are clueless. Sorry if this comes accross as trolling, but you really are minus a clue.

You've posted quite a few threads over the last few weeks, and each time we've helped and guided you to help you realise your awesome idea™ - yet you completely ignore the advice people are giving you and as Mammalian said you only take on board minute points of other peoples posts and completely miss the bigger picture.

If you want your idea to work there is no quick and/or cheap fix. You either need to go away and learn PHP/ASP/ASP.NET/C# and build the site yourself and learn exactly how to make an admin system, how to display products how to make a basket, how to keep it secure and SEO friendly. Or you can take a wheelbarrow full of cash and dump it at the door of a professional web developer who'll build the site for you however you want it. Shortcutting either option will stunt your website dramatically.

For that reason, I'm out.

And to answer your question, Gamespot is not a Flash site, but does have flash in it.

I have tried taking on board everything that you guys have said. I am really appreciated of your efforts to reply to my posts. Your help is second to none.

Just tell me this please, the kind of site I really want to make will look like this, I need to know is this a flash site?

http://www.brickytool.com/index_eng.html

I see you can use the browser back and forward buttons which other sites don't allow. You can also right click on this site. And highlight text which other flash sites don't allow. As well this site loads up in a second. I really want to create a similar site to this!

If you want to know if a site is using Flash, right click on the page. If it's using Flash you'll get the "About Flash" button to click.

That site uses Flash for the header and is a terrible, terrible site.

Dude, flash is like a big box on the screen where they animate stuff. Theres no such thing as a "flash site", just sites that use flash a lot. Generally speaking, you shouldn't :

1) Use flash for navigation
2) Use flash as an intro page without a text version
3) Use too much flash as it can be heavy and take a while to load.

Okay so that site uses flash for the header, but what about the pages on the left they interact is that flash aswell? That's really all I want to have interactive page names!
