Does anybody do this - keep all the games they buy for their machines? I used to for the PC but have now sold everything and mostly use Steam for the few games that I play on PC these days.

I don't really keep games for the consoles as they are too pricey but I always get a twinge of sadness when I get rid of something. Has anyone got a big library for the PS2, for example? I was thinking about starting a library for the 360 now that there's a load of games for £10-£15 knocking about. It'd be nice to have them there for when you want to play again in a couple of years time or whatever.

Then I got wondering, when the next Xbox comes out will Microsoft be offering all the 360 titles as digital "Xbox 360 Originals" downloads on the Marketplace like they do with the odd Xbox game now. I suppose that all depends on whether they even have backwards compatibility. Intel will be after their business again with the Larrabee chip, I'm sure.

i used to keep everythin i bought with older "retro" generations of consoles but now days with the 360 i tend to sell games when i get bored to pay for newer games. Plus I always know that if I want a certain game back at some point down the line, I can pick it up pretty cheaply second hand or off egay or somethin. I do however keep the games that really enjoyed i.e. burnout revenge etc

It's very very rare that I ever sell games on. They're like old friends. Parting with them really does tug the heartstrings.

Occasionally it does happen, then I get a guilty feeling :/

My collection of games is quite large, spanning 30+ years of consoles :p I hate getting rid of any, though there's a few gems that I really shouldn't have parted with over the years...(Shenmue 2 anyone? :()

I usually trade in newer games.

Im starting to build my own retro collection, just bought a megadrive with bout 13 games.

Im more a retro collector than anything else

I tend to only buy games I know I'll keep these days. Everything else is a rental or borrow (good job I work in a games store, lol)

I do still have a decent collection of PS1 games knocking round the house somewhere

I've always traded my old games in, usually for no more than £15, which in most cases is fine, but there have been two occasions where I could've got a lot more.

Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Saturn was going for £100 on the bay at one point and Guardian Heroes, also on the Saturn was going for around £50 I believe. I wish I still had it though as I'd love to play that game again, but in all honesty, it's the only one I miss. Once I've played a game I rarely go back to them so they worth more to me as a trade in and some cash of my new game.

Yeah, I can see that there is no real need to keep every single game under the sun but it's knowing which games are going to be the hardest to find again in the future if you fancy a play - they're the ones to hold on to. Trying to track down (inexpensive) pristine copies of Shadow of the Colossus and ICO is proving difficult.

I don't think there are any that have got the same level of "cult" status on the 360 yet, are there?

I tend to play them until i realize im not playing them that often any more, and then sell them on to the glorious folk who visit the MM,

Then i go buy a new game with the returns, rinse and repeat!

And then of course there's the viewpoint that if you pick up the games when they are second-hand and pretty cheap, there's no real point in reselling them again for just a couple of quid.

I have kept all my games from this generation purely because I have trouble trading them in. I get stuff sent here from Amazon UK and the local retailers won't accept them as they have a different barcode and vice versa when I go back to the UK with German games. I must admit I like opening my game drawer and seeing loads of games (80+ on 360 + Wii) though.

It is a good idea in you are into it from a collecting point of view rather than the monetary value, especially if as you say, that a lot of games can be picked up for cheap now.

I just normally keep the games and don't usually trade them in.

When getting a new games console though, I used to trade everything in against the new one, but now I don't and keep everything.

Like a few others on here, I am trying to build up a bit of a retro collection.

I typically keep my games... like... forever. Unless they suddenly become quite valuable like Tales of Symphonia, that's getting sold soon.

I don't really collect anything but there are a few games I've made the effort of repurchasing just to ensure I don't lose them forever. Three that spring to mind are:

  • Toonstruck
  • Star Trek: 25th Anniversary (talkie)
  • Star Trek: Judgement Rights (talkie)
  • Star Trek: A Final Unity

I'd also like to repurchase Broken Sword 1 & 2 on original disks as I only have the dodgey ScummVM firendly backups knocking about on a dvd and a very scratched original of 1.
