Hi I'm pretty interested in building a rig over the summer, never done it before however I have a little experience moving ram around and playing with the BIOS. Having looked through a few guides on costs I'm hoping for a budget about £350-500.

What kind of quality can i expect for this price range ?

Any recommendations on which components to go with?
(to be able to game reasonably)

AMD OR INTEL ?!!

Hi and welcome,

What do you need for your money?

A base unit? OS? keyboard+mouse etc?

Whats it to be used for?

Do you have any parts that can be re-used? (SATA DVD drive, case etc)

You can get a mediocre build for that budget, depending on what you can recycle as Stulid asked you may be able to get some pretty decent parts.

Also the general consensus on intel VS AMD is go for intel

As of right now, that budget would be just for the rig, already have accesories and OS license , already got a optical drive that's probably usable .
Looking to get :
Graphics card
processor
motherboard
(probably integrated sound at this point)
Harddrive
RAM
case
power supply

Was really just upgrading to a model for multitasking and web browsing as a build project for daily usage , but I'm pretty interested in pc gaming and would definitely invest in a graphics card that means I can game.

Optical drive is hitachi , got a 32 bit license b

You should remove that bit from your quote that hints at naughtyness

With a 64bit OS you can make use of the 8GB of RAM:) 32bit is only able to address 4GB (actually 3.6'ish)

Does it use a cable like this to the board?

Okay, thanks for the quick replies :) , will look over the components you guys recommended. I assume they're all compatible.

I notice you linked me to all overclockers uk sales , would you recommend any other sites to shop around/cut costs , I know ********'s pretty good for components.
