I am in the process of building a new machine, using the following components:

asus p6x58d-e
i7 950
gtx460 gpu.

the system will be used mainly for lightroom and adobe cs5 photo editing. I am confused with memory, I see that the board will accept triple channel memory, but have seen 12gb at 9-9-9-24, but also 6gb at 7-7-7-20. Will i need 12gb? and does the latency really matter that much. Apologies for the dumb question but i dont seem to be able to solve the issue.

Many thanks

Gary

you wont need loads of ram unless your doing mass photo editing at the same time. lower latency gives better performance although for your use you probably wont notice a difference

In that case I would strongly suggest going for a new "Sandy Bridge" CPU and motherboard instead (released on Sunday). For your uses it will be much better than an i7 950 (have a look at this review).

thanks very much for that info looks very interesting, will have to wait and see when its released how much it is going to be.

Cheers

Gary
