Hey!

I’m looking to build a new PC with a budget of £1400 and to be only used for gaming at 3440x1440.

So far this is what I have planned, any changes?

https://uk.************.com/list/YYFbTM

Here’s a list as well:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7 GHz 6-Core Processor (£194)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler (£39)
Motherboard: MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard (£149)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory (£90)
Storage: Patriot Viper VP4300 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (£115)
Video Card: XFX Speedster MERC 310 Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB Video Card (£635)
Case: Corsair 3000D AIRFLOW ATX Mid Tower Case (£70)
Power Supply: Asus TUF Gaming 750G 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£80)
Case Fan: ARCTIC P12 PST 56.3 CFM 120 mm Fans 5-Pack (£25)
Total: £1397

Thanks

solid list, not much to change except tinkering
you may want to wait to see what the new radeons bring to the table (the 9070XT)...stock may be short for a few months though, so it depends on how long you can/want to wait

things i would change:
1) get the ryzen 7600 (non-x), runs cooler and minimal performance difference - personal recommendation as someone who has used both the 7600 and 7600x previously
2) a better SSD, there were data corruption issues previously with the VP4300...seeing as you're looking for a SSD with DRAM cache, these would be my recommendations:

Samsung 990 pro
WD SN850X
Seagate Firecuda 530
Crucial T500
Adata XPG GAMMIX S70 BLADE
Kingston Fury Renegade
SK hynix Platinum P41
Solidigm P44 PRO

I would go with any on the list, whichever is cheapest on the day

AMD are releasing new GPUs in 4 weeks so you might want to hold off for those.

And which games will you be playing? 32 GB will do you well for 99% of games but if you're playing DCS then I have read reports of it using 56 GB.

I guess I could wait a month to see what benchmarking and pricing is like, ideally it would need to be sub £650 for me to consider it, I do think that’s unlikely?

Swapping to the 7600, let’s me fit in the SN850x.

I’ll wait it out for a month, I’ve already waited 2 months, it’s mainly down to pricing as my GPU budget is max £650

I just play story games, god of war, red dead etc… nothing RAM intensive

Or if the CPU has IGPU use that for a bit, play Stalker 2 at 4K Ultra setttings :D

on, release, you'd be correct, and likely to be scalped too

I could get if off eBay as these ‘Chinese imports’ but I’ve seen some benchmarking as there is hardly much difference when it comes to gaming performance, maybe 1-3% and that’s all the PC will be used for
Cheapest I can find without importing anything would be £175 for 7700 which makes sense to get

you'd be correct, but also do note the lack of warranty if you go this route.
there's not much in it for the increase in core counts as you've noticed.
the next step up in gaming performance are the X3D chips (specifically 7800X3D and 9800X3D...the 12 core X3D chips are worse for games, and the 16 core X3D are expensive in comparison)

I'm not too fussed about warranties, I tend to pick up used/warranty less parts a lot in the past built my current system of 5600x/6700xt all used from ebay/marketplace.

What about the 7500F? Is this something worth considering?

There's a reputable seller on eBay selling 7500f = £140, 7600X = £160 and 7700 = £175. the 7600x seems to be out of stock with this seller.

fair enough, that's the same with me, most of my main/secondary systems are built on used parts.
others are more conscious about the warranties hence why i do mention it to consider

it's basically a slightly slower 7600 without the integrated gpu and is worth consideration if your budget is stretched
the igpu is a nice feature to have in case you need to run diagnostics if something goes wrong in the pc as you won't need a graphics card to run the system
