Hi. I’m about to build myself a new pc and could do with some advice. I’ve not built one for a year or two so I’m not up to date with things. The list below is what I’m planning to buy, I’d appreciate it if you let me know whether it sound’s ok or whether I’m about to make a big balls up :) I’m planning on picking up these parts from Overclockers tomorrow afternoon.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz Retail
Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe
2GB Corsair XMS2-6400C4 TwinX Dual Channel Kit
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

Also, I have 2x 200GB IDE hard drives in my old PC. Will I be able to connect these to the new motherboard using the 1 available IDE socket?

Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

Cheers :)

how much does that come too?
are you gong to overclock?
have you considered an intel core2duo spec?

edit:

and hi and welcome to the forums

It comes to around £500 which is my budget give or take a bit.. I don't think i'll be overclocking it to be honest but it'd be good to have the option. I'll be mainly using it as media pc connected to my HD Tv but i'll probably dable with a few games.

I've had a look at the intel duel core's, it was a toss up between this AMD one and the "Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.86GHz (1066FSB)" one. Are the intel one's better?.. my last few pcs have all been AMD.

Thanks :)

You could drop down to a 520W PSU, and save yourself a few bob. Nothing there that needs that much.

Would the graphics card run ok? It says on the site to have a 500w mnimum psu and recomends 600w+ That's why i went for the 600w one.

Cheers for the help :)

Edit - I'd say my budget is roughly £500 for

Processor
Mboard
Memory
GFX Card
PSU

Do you think this setup will run better?.. I've heard AMDs run quite hot is this true?... I keep my main PC in my bedroom so i could do with it running reasonably quiet..

How's this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Overclock the CPU to 3GHz+ and your have a nice system. :)

Sound's intersting.. Are they easy enough & safe to overclock? :) - I could do with something that's not too much hassle to set up ;)

I will probably go for this set up unless anyone has any other ideas? :)

Quick questions,

I've already got an alaska 460w psu.. They recomended minimum 500w for the gfx card so do i really need a new 520w one or would i be ok?

The 1.80GHz seems a bit cheap at £50, are they ok?.. If i could stretch to a Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.33GHz (1333FSB) - would it be worth it??

Thanks again for all your help :)
