Hey all. New to the Forum.
Thought I'd come by GH and post my planned Gaming PC.

I Currently have:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 Proc 2.6 810
MOBO: GA-MA790XT-UD4P
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4800
RAM: 16GB of Random Sticks of Memory
PSU: OCZ700SXS
Case: I have no Idea.

My planned new build:
CPU: i5-4670K
Mobo: Gigabyte Z87-D3HP
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RED 8GB
GPU: GTX 760 or 770
PSU: I'll continue to use the old one until it breaks.
Case: NZXT H440 (ordered and waiting. Any Idea When OC will be sending these out?)

I'll probably start off with the EK Watercooling kit too with GPU block.

After lurking around from forum to forum, this seems to be the most generic Gaming rig at the moment with the I5 and the 760/770.

Let me know of any suggestions.

Thanks.

Just a few thoughts on you're build... I probably would get the Avexir Blue 2400Mhz RAM as itl match the board and comes in at the same price. I would probably go for a 280x / 290 rather than the 760/770... If you're budget can stretch to a watercooled GPU... then the 290 can be voltage unlocked and flashed to a 290x and then you have an AWESOME card that compares to a 780/780ti for the price of one of the more expensive 770's. Even if you don't do that, im pretty sure the 280x is a better card than the 770?

Oh also... not sure how you want your budget to work, but I would HIGHLY recommend an SSD... makes loading times a LOT quicker and will be the largest difference for general speed of use on the PC

Hey. Thanks for the suggestions.

I was looking at the 280x a while ago but all benchmarks are saying the GTX 770 edges forward on most games.

If I was able to OC the 290 and have it be the equivalent to a 290x, wouldn't that mean I'd be able to OC the GTX 770 to the equivalent of a higher model?

They might be the Same price range too but a mate is able to give me a good deal on a Gainward GTX 770.

I've got an SSD in my old PC. Forgot to add that in the Spec.

Cheers The Only Beardy, I'll check out the memory.

In regards to picking either AMD or NVidia for the GPU. Anyone think that due to both PS4 and Xbox using AMD, that most future PC games will be made around AMD?

Something worth looking in to is the fact that some big games developers in the future will start using "Mantle" as a way of optimizing their games for AMD architectures... nvidea in the past have generally had better drivers, meaning games run better of nvidea hardware, but we could see this change in the next year or so...

No it doesn't, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1041?vs=1037
I have a 770, i would prefer the 280x.

The 290 is very close to the 290X, which is why it can be overclocked to that level (although the 290X can be overclocked too, of course). There is a bigger difference between the 770 and Nvidia's next step up - the 780.

You're unlikely to get a 290 that can be flashed to a 290X these days.

If you can get a 770 for less than that MSI Gaming 280X I linked above, then by all means go for it. The 280X is the better card (with a bit of overclocking, at least) and has an extra gigabye of VRAM - but there's not much to separate the two.

I'd recommend a new PSU - using your old one until it dies is a bad idea...

Cheers for the help guys.

I've decided to go ahead with the 280x.
The Mantle API is whats pushed me over to AMD.
I've read that BF4 uses it and Thief and STAR CITIZEN will be supporting it too.

I'll get some pictures up with the new H440 case once it's Built.

Thanks again.
