So the keeper of the money is finally allowing me to build a new system and i need some advice if i am looking at buying the correct products for a good system ;)

Firstly i have decided to go intel which seems to be the popular choice at the moment so i am buying Duo E6600,2.4 GHz Conroe Core.So i need help building around this chip and some comments if this is a good chip to buy.(Here is the noob question as i have been told conflicting info regarding this chip is each core 2.4GHz or is each core 1.2GHz?)

The motherboards i am currently looking at:

ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe NF4 SLI £129

ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP iP965 £128

(Is there a better board for around £130 i would be willing to pay more if the board is able to support quad core of future upgrade any suggestions on that?I think the P5N32 is able to run quad core but what about the PB5 or am i wrong about both?,i was told to go for Asus as they are very easy to clock as i only want to raise by about 10% as OC is totally new to me)

Cooler : Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

Ram : GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz

PSU : 500w AKASA PAXPower ATX 2.2 Ultra Quiet Clean PSU

Case : Coolermaster Cavalier 3

In addition i will be adding a dx10 card when they become available (Most likely ATI) 2-3 internal HDs and dvd burner (So is 500w enough?)

I will mostly be using the system for gaming and also video encoding but am hope once this is built it will last me some time although i am will upgrade the ram to 4 gig in the near future.

Thankyou in advance for your comments ;)

My budget is about £900-1000 although this is the pricing i have thus far inc vat.

ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP iP965 £128

Intel Core2Duo E6600 £205.61

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro £17.03

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz £164.49

Maxtor £28.54 and 250 Gb Samsung SP2504C SpinPoint P120 £50.13

256MB Sapphire Radeon X1950Pro, PCI-E(x16), Mem 1400MHz GDDR3 £132.65

500W Silverstone SST-ST50EF + dual + 12V, dual PCI-E, ATX12V 2.2 £63.40

Casetek V.Hermes £46.99

LiteON 16X DVD + /-RW/RAM Lightscribe Super All Write (already bought)

TOTAL : £835

(So is does the ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe NF4 SLI support quad core and can someone explain my earlier question regarding if each core 2.4GHz or is each core 1.2GHz?)

So with the updated list does it look like it would be a good machine, last for a while and also operate games and video encoding at a good level.

Its worth noting that the 975X boards are regarded as more suitable for the 'conroe' chips (6600+) and the 965 board more appropriate to the 'allendale' cores (63/6400).

Then again, if you're not going to be clocking (bit of a waste with the new C2Ds IMHO) it will make less of a difference.

I have updated the list, any advice i would be gratefull especially about my question regarding this chip if it is each core is 2.4GHz or is each core 1.2GHz?

So should this be a good system for gaming and video encoding or is there somethings i should change?

ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP iP965 £128

Intel Core2Duo E6600 £205.61

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro £17.03

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz £164.49

Anyone got any advise on the psu? and the rest of the spec?

Yep a 600w psu is recommended, an enermax 600w noisetaker should suffice together with being quite :)

The seasonic m12 (modular- keeps case tidy)and s12 ranges are also highly recommended.

if you're planning on buying that system like now.. the only dx10 card out atm is the 8800series

or you could wait abit and get the ati dx10 card when its out? :P

Yeah my plan is to start buying bits like the ram, case, psu etc and leave the cpu and card til jan and hopefully catch the first lot of Ati cards and maybe a small fall in price on the duo,due to the quads coming in 2 weeks time.

Why?

The only thing I can perhaps see going up in price from now till then is the RAM. Just put the money in the bank - 6 weeks in computing can save a fair few pennies.

Then buy it all at the same time (saves postage too from here).
