Hi peps,

I am finally getting ready to build a new rig and just want to make sure my choices of gear is the best. Its been a while since my last one and not to sure on new tech.

Im going to be gaming and using it for 3DS max so I've gone for the 5820k is the couple of hundred quid really worth it?

Here is what i have so far.

Processor:- Intel i7 5820k (6core 3.3ghz)
Mobo:- Asus X99-Deluxe
Ram:- 16gb Corsair DDR4 2800mhz
Cooler: Corsair Hydro H110i

Main HD: 512gb Samsung 850 pro
Secondary HD: 3tb Seagate barracuda

Graphics: 4gb EVGA 970

Case: not to sure maybe NZXT H440 white
PSU:- 750w Corsair RM Series

Also bit stuck on the monitor

was thinking of something like

3rd one

love to hear your thoughts

It will be useful to go for the 5820k. You don't need to spend that much on a board however. Something like the Gigabyte UD4P, Champion etc would be fine. The 750W RM is not a great PSU either, look at EVGA G2 or B2, especially the B2 which is cheaper and much better internally, with also double the warranty. Only £5 more for a far superior unit

Micky has a point, if it were just a gaming rig.

If you are going to use 3DS a fair amount I think your on the right track. The extra cores on the 5820k will speed up that program no end.

A few things look a little overspecced but id stick with X99 for your uses.

I can help you with a speclater.

As far as rendering in Max goes, it scales almost linear with more cores i.e 6 cores is about 1.5 times as fast as 4. I think the 5820k is a great value CPU a very good choice.
You could save a lot on the motherboard - all x99 mobos are high end, so even the cheapest MSI sli board is still a very good, well featured board.
And as for ram, just get the cheapest, ram speed makes very little real world difference, especially on a quad channel platform.
X99 is a fairly pricey platform but there's no need for it to be very pricey.

Ill have a look at both of those thank you how much better are EVGA psu than other makes? also is 750-800w enough?

For SLI 970s in the future, look at an 850W as X99 is a bit more power hungry than standard Z97. Even with this, you won't see much more than 530W on load with 2 970s. For sticking a single card, 550W-650W will be fine, probably closer to the upper mark

With the new processors forgive my ignorance but will they update the 2011 haswell chip?

They treat them seperate, so no -E chips in september.

Broadwell-E has been touted for Q1 '16 but theres rumours it may be ditched for SKylake-E (possibly Q2-Q3 '16)

If you want a hex-core (intel) Haswell-E is a good way to go. :)
