alright guys i am into a pc that will encode video all the time. I have atm a 775 setup fully loaded with 8gig 1066 ram , a [email protected] ghz and plenty of disks most in raid0/1 setup. I was thinking into getting a Q9550 but most of people say no its a dead platform etc . I am thinking for a AM3 setup with a 955BE and my question is , is the phenom a better CPU for encoding or still the C2Q is the best out there? Is it worth investing in a Q9550 , new as chances are i will get an E0 , ? thanks in advance

PS i would appreciate keeping my DFI p45 :D

Have a look at this review. It seems that for video stuff the 955 is a bit faster than the q9550, but probably not enough to justify jumping platforms. Also - that's comparing a 3.2GHz processor with a 2.83GHz one. As both CPUs seem to overclock to 3.8GHz on good air cooling the q9550 would then match the 955.

If you want to get a new more up-to-date platform - an X58 + i7 920 is definitely the way to go for video encoding.
