not bad, i would replace the 146 for a 3800x2 though as they are hitting fx60 speeds quite easy, would get a 7900gt instead of that 6800 cause its MUCH better, keep that board cause its a good board, so if ya want you can go SLi, get
Corsair 2GB DDR XMS4000PT TwinX instead of the mushkins and make sure the colour of your dvd writer matches your case :D :D :D

for £1000 you could get a X2 and a better GFX card, like so:

MD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-152-AM) - £169.95

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-046-WD) - £55.50

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR) - £15.95

FSP Sparkle FX600-GLN Epsilon 600W ATX2.0 PSU (CA-002-SK) - £69.95

NEC ND4570 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM (CD-030-NE) - £24.95

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-060-PC) - £264.95

Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 (MY-079-CS) - £119.95

Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Black Aluminium Midi-Tower Case (No PSU) (CA-054-LL) - £48.95

Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AS) - £59.95

VAT £145.27

Altho I prefer the ATI cards at the moment I think the 7900 series OC better due to lower temps. If your looking for some thing to have a mess around with you might prefer one of them, depending on price.

dbappa has posted a very nice spec there. Personally, I would go with that.

I have an 3800+ and can't praise it highly enough. As your gonna clock it, take a look at this ... LINKAGE ... I'm sure you'll be converted. Mine is running at 2500 with no problems at all - max temp 38/39C.

:)

Try this, it'll kick the pants right off what you originally spec'd:

the 3800 is a great cpu, but with only 1/2 the amount of cache as the OP's opteron - so depending on what he is going to be doing he may or may not miss the extra 512k.

I would also up the PSU myself to a 530w model as indicated just above, I have the original 480w and its a really great device, however if you are thinking of SLI'ing then at least 530 w and preferably 600w is best (and if you are not SLI'ing then the DFI Ultra D comes highly recommended)

While the 7900's are undoubtedly a great card, I would still go with an X1900XT myself, but there is such a fine line between the two varients its down to personal choice in my opinion.

I have always detested XP Home myself ever since it first came out, maybe its a lot better now on the networking front but I would always pay the little extra for Pro myself

It hasn't got half the amount of cache because it's 512k per core! Which last time I checked is 1mb combined the same as an opteron 146 :p
