Hi all,
Basically after a couple of upgrades I will have a good bit of kit laying around.
My two lads are still using an old LGA 775 Q9550 Micro ATX system from eons ago, it has a recent Bequiet 600w PSU and BeQuiet cooler, and a 120gb SSD and a HDD for storage that can be transfered. Windows 7 64bit retail. One lads 10 the other 12, both use it for gaming and homework, the 12yr old being into tech side things at high school.
I have the system in my signature, but will be getting a new GPU and 16gb of memory and thought no point changing now from a 4770K to a 4790K or 6700k myself.
I also may need a new PSU as I think mine is causing 05 error codes and restarts upon shutdown as it is pre Haswell. But could use the 1000w PSU in my system
After my upgrades I will have in my spares.
Gigabyte Z97X-SOC Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard unused
Patriot Viper DDR3 2400MHz memory, 2x4gb sticks
2x MSI HD-7950 GPU's
NZXT S340 case kitted with Phobya RGB lighting
Cooler Master V-1000w PSU unused
Cooler Master 240M AIO cooler
Noctua NH-U14S cooler unused
I had at one point planned a 4790K X-fire system with all this, when I got the Z97 motherboard, but ended up just keeping the 4770k system I had with a single 7950.
I am getting a GTX-1070, but was tempted to use the 1000w C-M PSU for a bit, to see if the errors replicate, before replacing the Seasonic X-650 I have. Though really I would like a superb 550w PSU and should probably downsize my case.
So I am thinking a simple i3 build with a single 7950 will do the lads, but is it a waste of the Gigabyte motherboard and all that kit?
Should I justy plump for an i5 or i7 K series for a system with those spares instead?
