I am building a computer tommorow, and i have a little bit of fear of getting things wrong, how do i know what way stuff goes in like the Mobo and the Graphics Card, does the Mobo come with instructions on where everything plugs in and what way?

the motherboard manual will be your best friend if this is your first build, everything will be in that little book lol

i usually go with

open and prep case

install cpu, ram and HSF on the mobo onto of the mobo box

install psu in case

install mobo in case

install dvd drives/floppy drives etc

install hard drives in case

connect all dvd and dard drives to the mobo and front pannel connectors and power cables to mobo and drives

install graphics card and other expansion slot cards and attach the correct power cables to them.

boot up and make sure everything is detected etc in the bios and set the comp to boot from Dvd drive then hard drive, pop in os disk

restart and install os :D

How long will it take me to build it all, i know like most of what im doing.
Also, is it hard to set up the BIOS and the OS?
Depends really. I used to build PCs within 10 mins or so but if you want to spend some time checking things and taking your time, you could spend an hour or two maybe,

The BIOS is easy. Now a days all you need to set is the date and time really. Pop in your OS CD or DVD and you're on your way.

erm for a first timer, about 50mins to an hour. :)

erm yeah just tap the "DEL" button when your comp starts and when the bios screen comes up just make sure it detects the hard drive (correct size), dvd drive, and ammount and type/speed of ram that you installed.

building it and doing these checks are the easy part, the difficult bit is when you run into problems and have to try and narrow things down and diagnose things

as for installing the OS it is very self explanitory, it takes you through it step by step, very simple :)

Best advice is to take your time, even if it takes all day and if you're unsure about anything then ask here - I can can safely say there'll be a lot of forum users online tomorrow.
Most components will only go one way so you can't really go wrong. I'd pretty much do what Kennysevenfold would do except I'd install the PSU after the motherboard and like he says the motherboard manual will be your best pal tomorrow.... Keep us updated

I would hate it if i ran into problems, i would panic so much, what are likely things i may find problems with?

Depends what you've bought mate, hopefully you've done a little bit of research before you bought the parts and made sure everything is compatible?

yeah mate if you take your time and watch a few youtube videos on how to build a pc system you shouldnt run into anything major :)

can always just come back hear and ask, were always happy to help :p

just what out for the so called "simple" things, forgetting to plug in power connectors, data cables, not seating ram and expansion cards properly.

and make sure you keep yourself grounded.! :)

If your anything like me mate it'll take you a week. Lol

I've just cleaned out my pc and cleaned and reinstalled my arctic cooler.
Its the first time i've ever been brave enough to get in there and do it.
It took me about 3 hours to do that but i'm really pleased with myself as everything worked first time when i got it back together and i even managed to knock nearly 20 degrees of my temps too.:D

If it wasnt for this forum and the great advice you get on it i'd still be frying eggs on my case.

So if you do have any problems just get back on here and i'm sure there will be someone to help you out.

All the best for the build and have a happy xmas and new year.;)

Hi

Please don't worry about the guy who said 10 mins...it took me about 3-4 hours for my first build.Read the manual, fit the item, then check you are happy with it.Read the manual. Then carry on.
There is no rush!!
When you are spending loads of cash be careful..AND... most of all, enjoy yourself!!
Let the guy who takes 10 mins **** things up..not you!!

If you read my post again, I said it would take about an hour or so. I didn't say my first build took 10 mins or his will either. This was when I was knocking up office spec systems at work.

I'm sure he simply meant it he usually builds them now within 10mins as he has experience behind him but his first build took 1 hour or so...

The op is a first builder...it does not take 10 mins!
It took me at least 30 mins to open the mobo box, take out the mobo and study the manual/cpu/heat sink etc.
