Building a PC - Getting things the right way around.

just let us know if you come across any problems on your build and keep us posted on how it goes etc mate :p

Merry Christmas And a Happy New year Everyone

And in the words of terry Tibbs...Good Night And God Bless lol

When i built my first computer back in 97' or something, it took me all day. For a first timer, you're always going to be cautious. Don't about about time. It'll get finished when it gets finished...

re

i built my own pc for first time and took me 2-3 hrs up and running with vista...use your manual and ask about anything that you are unsure about in these forums....just take your time and dont rush..follow the booklets or manuals that you get...even if you think that you know..read it just to see...i do recommend reading up on applying thermalpaste to the heatsink..go to the official site or go to youtube and look for building a pc....here is a good basic guide that i found....i read so much before i actually got my parts that i didnt need to follow anything when the parts came!Do your research on anything you are unsure about and you cannot fail

Here is a step by step video guide

See, i'd have built it a couple of days before christmas to make sure it was all working for the big day, all you want is to spend your whole day with your head inside a pc case :)

When I built my first computer, I automatically blew up the power supply.
:( This is because I forgot to set the voltage correctly, if your not aware of this, look for the red switch on the power supply itself and make sure its set to 240v :) Im confident im not the only first time builder who made that mistake hehe! oh what it was to be youthfull :D

the motherboard manual will be your best friend if this is your first build, everything will be in that little book lol

i usually go with

open and prep case

install cpu, ram and HSF on the mobo onto of the mobo box

install psu in case

install mobo in case

install dvd drives/floppy drives etc

install hard drives in case

connect all dvd and dard drives to the mobo and front pannel connectors and power cables to mobo and drives

install graphics card and other expansion slot cards and attach the correct power cables to them.

boot up and make sure everything is detected etc in the bios and set the comp to boot from Dvd drive then hard drive, pop in os disk

restart and install os :D

Only change I would make would be to just connect the OS drive and one Optical to start with, if you have extra drives that is. As this is your first build that may be all you have, but if you have more hard drives it's nice to be sure Windows loads on the correct drive.

As time goes by I take longer to build my PC's, but that's because I now take a lot more time over cables and stuff! As everyone said, take your time and all will be fine.

ive built loads of systems and i still find they take an hour or so, only because ima real stickler for hiding cabling and making sure it looks well.

You could just throw in the components in 10 or 15 mins if your not worried about tidy cabling.

Got a question for my first build :) I'm pretty much ready to press the power button however...

From the power supply I have a cable with three molex connections, to which I have attached a Raptor drive, an Optical drive and a Fan controller. Is it okay to do this? I have a spare molex power cable I can attach, but would rather use the one if i can. The PSU is a Tagan 1100w Modular. I would assume that this would be okay, but just a little unsure so would like some advice!

Oh and Merry Crimbo! ;)
