is there a list somewhere of everything you would need to build a PC from scratch (ive never done it before :( )

btw i dont need get an 8800 etc. as i know that lot. so far i can think of:

GFXcard
CPU (dose this come with a stock heatsink etc.?)
HDD ( i am going to re use mine tough ;) )
sound card (got allready)
MB
PSU
case
dvd/da drives

what else?

cpu
ram
mobo
graphics card
power supply
harddrive
dvd burner
case

os

thats the basics realy

if you buy an OEM cpu then no you will not get a cooler

but if you get retail then you will get a cooler

most do come with one

well i ment if u have never done it before, like do u need that thermal paste etc.

CPU comes with a stock heatsink and thermal paste, but if you want to overclock it (which you should), you may well think about an aftermarket HSF such as the Noctua NH-12F.
Motherboards come with cables to connect the hard-drives/DVD drives etc

Depends on what you use the pc for.

2Gb with XP is fine, Vista benefits from more ram, but you have the potential issue of drivers for your hardware and programs not liking 64bit Vista. Plus SP1 for Vista appears to have been put off till next year.

i have vista 32 so would 2GB be fine? @ the mo i have 2GB DDR on my P4 3.2 and i doesnt seem to set to any realy high percentage of use

Should be, yes. My mate has Vista for his new build and 8Gb of ram, can't remember if its 32 or 64. Guessing 64 as the 2Gb limit is a 32bit software issue. There are work arounds, but as i don't use Vista yet haven't looked into them.
