Hi everyone, this is my first time on these forums :)
Im interested in building a PC, having no experience in doing so before. I've heard from a friend that the overclockers forum community is great, so I decided to join.
This is the situation: I've got an asus gtx 460 768mb top edition, and a cooler master GX 550w psu, which ive used to upgrade my home computer, which I intend to remove and put in my built PC once i get started. I was just wondering whether you guys could give me some advice on the components I've selected?
Another point, should I wait for sandy bridge? And get that instead of an i5? Or would they be a little out of my price range (total budget for new components is £350) ? Or should I wait and then buy an i5, if sandy bridge cpus push the prices down?

Right, here's the list:

Intel Core i5 650 3.20GHz (Clarkdale) (Socket LGA1156) - £137.99
Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 microATX Motherboard - £61.69
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz - £42.99
Coolermaster Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black - £37.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - £29.99
Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - £15.26

Sub Total : £277.37
Shipping : £10.00
VAT is being charged at 17.50% VAT : £50.29
Total: £337.37

Thanks in advance :)

Hello and welcome!

Do you need any peripherals or an OS with your budget? £350 isn't going to be enough for a decent Sandy Bridge set up in my opinion.

If you want to buy an existing i5 then purchase the i5 760 as it is a true 4 core CPU and a great overclocker which is only a couple of pounds more than the 650.

You also missed out a PSU/Graphics Card ( If you want one ).

Hey thanks for the quick reply!
No i dont need any peripherals, as i have a hdtv i plan to connect to, and also keyboard and mice.
I put in my first post that I already own a GTX 460 768mb and a Coolermaster Gx550w PSU :)
Okay so I should go for the 760 instead? What are the advantages? Also is it possible that I could get the i3 sandybridge upgrade and overclock it? Or perhaps wait for the overclocked bundles that ocuk does?
Thanks :)

Sorry I skipped right over it!

The 760 is 4 core whereas the version you originally chose is only 2 core. As for SB, I don't know what the prices will be like to be honest but I would like to think that the i5 760 will perform better than any of the 2 core SB i3 CPUs.

No worries :)
Thanks for the advice, if i do get the i5 i will get the on you stated, as its only like 7 pounds more. Also, do you think that for £350 that the list i have compiled is good, or at least worth it, pound for pound?
Cheers

The components you've picked are fine (once you've changed the CPU to the 760). Nothing wrong with that build for £350.

Ive looked sandy bridge up, and apparently the intel core i5 2400 sandybridge cpuwill be going at £144.99 at release? Surely if the compatible motherboards aren't too expensive it's sensible to wait? Thanks

probably not that useful but you can buy it now and miss the VAT increase, bonus!, or you can wait for SB i5 and then again for compatible Mobo's PLUS the VAT?

Sounds good to me anyways :)

My brother is looking to upgrade his computer later next year, im sure he will be looking for a similar build as was in the OP, mins a few pounds and including a GPU :)

Happy New Year!

Sweet yeh I guess Ill wait, i'm just hoping it will manage games well. So psyked for Dragon age 2 ahah :) yeah the VAT is a pain in the bum, drive up my build only by about a tenner tho?
And yes happy new year to you all, sitting here in the living room with my family waiting for the New Year, ipad at hand :)
