Hey all,

im trying to building this :D

I was wondering what materials would you use? im thinking MDF 18mm think would this be strong enough to support 3 people on the back couch?

Also what kind of structure would you build to support the platform? timber size? etc :D

Cheers for any help

I'd imagine chipboard would be cheaper and lighter than MDF. Most new houses use chipboard instead of floorboards anyway.

As for the structure, I'd lay beams across the floor and space them about 12-18" apart and build it up from that, probably using 4x2". I'm no carpenter though, so what I say may not be very helpful!

I'd not bother fixing it down TBH, it won't move anyway. Besides, it'll be easier to move when SWMBO decides she doesn't like it anymore! :D

I have no idea about construction or acoustics really, but I notice in my flat with wooden floorboards of some sort that the bass from my speakers makes much more of a distorted rumbling sound than it did in a room with concrete floor (that's a pair of B&W 485 standmounts). So it might be worth thinking about trying to minimize that kind of effect, I wouldn't know how, but I'd imagine it will definitely be a good idea to fix whatever you make down.

GRRRr

tried making a diagram with keys... didnt work lol

anyway, just make a frame, wood round the outside, a beam down the centre, and some cross members.. then put chipboard over the top
