Hi guys,

I'm pretty skint but can spare about 350quid to build myself a rig to play some Wow on. Wow is pretty old game so doesnt need the latest gcard to push over 60fps.

So i was thinking of going for these parts

GCard: ATI Radeon HD 5770 based card.
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640 / 3 GHz
HDD: Samsung SpinPoint T166 HD321KJ
Motherboard: MSI 870A-G54
PSU: Corsair Builder CX500
RAM: 2GB DDR3 1333(PC10600)
Case: NZXT Classic Series GAMMA - Mid tower - ATX

What ye think?

Would choose reliability over speed. So if any part is a complete dog then please shout at me!

Thanks
-W

Echo the above i would go with a 4Gb (2 x 2Gb sticks) of RAM minimum

given your budget restrictions... this could be contender?

looks capable of playing WOW easily

If XFire is not a future option...( your PSU would struggle anyway to be honest)... have you considered going for a cheaper mATX MB?

something like this

Unlocking is never guaranteed.

Could be stuck with a X2 555BE - still capable for WoW however.

I would aim for X3+4GB ram+HD5770 or similar :)

fair point. I would just add this comparaison between the two processors to sway the debate on my favour. :D Although 7 fps on WoW isn't really that big of a deal (well, 10%).

Either imo will be fine. And if they unlock, they'll be more than fine!

If you add an OS, the build is blown but possible to go £400.

Oh, yeah, I read that benchmark ages ago :p. But I don't imagine WoW is the sole game he'll play!?

With a HD5850 now at £107 and the HD5830 at a mere £85 they would be better alternatives by far than the HD5770 or similar.

yup. Not sure when they will be available for the deal. And as always, the 5850 is quite a big card, although it should those cases (Antec 100, Elite 330).

elite 330.
