Hey all,

on from my last post im now going to start looking to build a silent rack for all my servers or buy one, i have got one 1u LOUD AS **** server coming and two 2u LOUD AS **** servers coming. I was looking at the acoutsi racks that are near silent but i cant justify spending more on the rack than all 3 servers cost me combined. So im going to hop off to B&Q tomorrow to start picking up some bits to start building. Pics will come from tomorrow (which the "mrs" is not happy about) but hey i want to start asap :) anyway just need a bit of advise. was thinking about building the frame from plywood but i dont know if the frame would support 45kg even though it will be floor based, or if anyone can link me to a rack that is silent or id be able to silence that can take quite a few servers and network gear please let me know otherwise i will continue with my build :)

Do you plan to modify the servers themselves in an attempt to reduce noise or do you want to contain it all within the unit? Heat output should be a consideration..

i plan on using special foam to reduce the noise, "acousti foam" is what i think its called. It was they use in the kellsystems racks , along with other things. as for heat. the idea is to have some intake fans bringing cold air in and there will be some exaust vents at the back leading outside. The rack will be placed under my desk which is also under the window. and the exaust vents are being drilled as we speak. allowing for the hot air to escape into the wilderness quickly :P
